I\u2019d also prefer not to be fired for writing lists stating the reasons why work sucks, so all of these tongue-in-cheek comments should be taken with a hearty dose of laughter, and therefore maintain the goodwill of my generous and benevolent employer, whomever that may be at the time of publication. Yes, work can be rough \u2013 but a Dangerous Woman takes pride in her ability to earn a dollar and understands that money brings freedom.<\/p>\n

While she appreciates the finer things in life, she knows cash allows her to live life on her own terms, and that acquiring it can have a significant effect on her wellbeing. Many of the bad date stories I see online seem to be about women\u2019s jobs aren\u2019t actually about women\u2019s jobs \u2013 they\u2019re about what happens when a financially independent woman matches with someone who feels threatened by that.<\/p>\n

Take this example: When he found out I was a lawyer, the tone of the date totally changed. He made a comment about being intimidated and then told me that drinks would be on me, implying that it was because of how much I made. He obviously wasn\u2019t paying attention when we spoke about our careers while chatting online . . . I am proud of what I\u2019ve achieved and if he\u2019s got a problem with where his job sits in comparison, that\u2019s his issue.<\/p>\n

The man is just insecure. In this chapter, we\u2019ll unpack why holding on to your financial power in a relationship matters so much. As a young woman, I wasn\u2019t completely clueless when it came to money, but my long-term financial strategy was a little . . . well, wobbly.
