People came to her for different reasons, and many of them had no business looking her up and taking up her time. These people with no real stories to tell were folks who had heard about her and came with fake narratives about ghosts and spirits just to satiate their curiosity.<\/p>\n

Others came to her because they didn\u2019t want or couldn\u2019t afford to go to a doctor, but whatever was haunting them was entirely in their head. This man was different. The truth was in the desperation in his eyes, the way his hands shook, and the way his voice cracked. \u201cTell me again about the figure in the kitchen,\u201d said Sandra, her voice an invisible balm she hoped would put the man at ease and get him to slow down and explain things better.<\/p>\n

\u201cLike I said, it was around 2:00 a.m. when I heard the noise,\u201d the man said, fear turning his bloodshot eyes into jumpy animals. \u201cIt sounded like someone was dragging a chair across the tiles. I thought it was a burglar or something, you know? I\u2019ve been living on the East Side since my divorce \u2026 you know, it\u2019s not the best part of town. Anyway, I keep a baseball bat by my bed.<\/p>\n

Been doing that since college. I grabbed the bat and slowly made my way to the kitchen and\u2014\u201d \u201cThis is the most important part,\u201d Sandra interrupted. \u201cSlow down and describe it as well as you can. Your description can help me know what we\u2019re dealing with.\u201d The man took a deep breath and went on. \u201cThere was a man\u2014a figure \u2014standing next to the table. It was \u2026 it was all black. Really tall. Its head came up almost all the way up to the ceiling.<\/p>\n

It was skinny, like an afternoon shadow, you know? I walked into the kitchen ready to swing and the thing\u2019s head turned to me. It had no eyes or mouth or nose that I could see, but I knew\u2014I felt\u2014that it was looking at me. I\u2019ve never felt fear like that. It was like someone had injected me with one of those snake venoms that paralyze you or something. I didn\u2019t swing or scream or anything. The black thing turned around and walked away from me in the direction of the fridge.<\/p>\n

Then it went through the wall and that was it.\u201d \u201cYou mean that was it for that night, right? You mentioned some other \u2026 occurrences in your apartment,\u201d said Sandra. \u201cYeah, yeah, that was it for that night, but more stuff happened,\u201d said the man. \u201cLike?\u201d \u201cWell, I\u2019ve heard the chairs a few more times. I\u2019ve seen things, too. You know like, out of the corner of my eye.<\/p>\n
