To organize your ideas, I recommend that you start by clustering together those ideas which are identical or very similar, and give each cluster a short, sharp, descriptive name which you can write as a title with a marker in capital letters (or the electronic equivalent if you are working on a virtual whiteboard).

Next, it’s time to evaluate and prioritize each idea and any clusters of ideas. The quickest and most effective way I have found to do this, especially within a workshop setting or taskforce team meeting, is the Attractive/Accessible matrix, below: Each idea and cluster of ideas is individually evaluated on two criteria: Attractive and Accessible. Attractive To evaluate whether an idea is Attractive, ask the following three power questions: How attractive do we believe this idea will be to our core customers?

To what degree do we believe this idea will help them achieve their key outcome and remove their key obstacle(s)? To what degree do we believe that our core customer would be willing to pay for this idea? In an ideal world, you would make this evaluation with the involvement of real core customers.

Do this if you can, as it brings more robustness and rigour to the prioritization of your ideas. However, if that is not possible, given that you are going to Verify the Value of your prioritized idea(s) in the next step, it is OK for your prioritization here to be based on your existing customer knowledge, hypotheses and assumptions. Accessible To evaluate whether an idea is Accessible, ask the following three power questions: How accessible or feasible would this idea be for our company to implement?

To what degree does this idea leverage our company’s existing assets, knowledge, capability or infrastructure? To what degree do we estimate that this idea would require an acceptable level of investment for our company and deliver a sufficient level of profit? One comment regarding feasibility: it is important to be as objective as possible here, as many ideas are much more feasible to implement than you might initially think – especially if you consider potentially working with partners.

This book isn’t just a game-changer; it’s a revolution for innovators.
