I moved to hit the Off button on the notifications, knowing I\u2019d have to see them flashing in the corner of the screen instead.<\/p>\n

Every second felt like a ticking clock, counting down to a departure we weren\u2019t sure we were ready for, but had to be. Our ships were filled to capacity, a constant reminder of the massive crew and supplies needed for our journey to the Dolx quadrant. But despite the stress, it was satisfying to see the boxes ticked up on the screens before us. Suddenly, my comms device beeped, and I quickly answered, \u201cFrost, speaking.\u201d \u201cWe have an incoming transmission from Grand Admiral Selia on Hidaba Four,\u201d Ashleigh\u2019s voice came through my comms.<\/p>\n

\u201cShall I patch it through?\u201d \u201cPlease do, and project it on the screen for all of us to see,\u201d I replied. The image of Grand Admiral Selia and his daughter appeared before us. \u201cGrand Admiral,\u201d I greeted him with a nod. \u201cGood to see you again. Lieutenant Commander Wells and my brother are with me. What can we assist you with?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019ve detected several large ships entering our first quadrant of space,\u201d Selia reported. \u201cThey seem to be heading toward your fleet at slower speeds.\u201d \u201cThat\u2019s most likely Baxter\u2019s fleet,\u201d Des chimed in. \u201cThey\u2019re earlier than expected, but we did ask them to expedite their arrival.\u201d \u201cDo you think that means we can finally depart?\u201d Admiral Selia asked hopefully.<\/p>\n

\u201cI certainly hope so.\u201d I glanced over at David. \u201cGet me in contact with their commanders. Let\u2019s coordinate this operation. Once they\u2019re settled in, we\u2019ll have everything we need to make our departure.\u201d I knew David was just as eager as I was to get out of this system. Every day spent here put the Claymons at risk, despite Ketah\u2019s efforts to bring other races closer for protection. The early reports were coming in that the Haki-Sha weren\u2019t leaving the area and were killing anything that came close.<\/p>\n

As we waited for communication with Baxter\u2019s fleet, my mind wandered to everything that had been weighing on me. The news from Doc and Eboni, the decisions I had to make for my team and family.<\/p>\n
