Inside I was jumping for joy. \u201cThis doesn\u2019t need to be awkward, Graham. I\u2019m\u2014I never meant for you to know, and I understand if we can\u2019t be friends anymore.\u201d His words came out in a rush. He chewed at his bottom lip. \u201cWhy would you never want me to know?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s not fair for me to put my feelings out there like that, because you don\u2019t feel the same.\u201d \u201cI don\u2019t?\u201d I asked with a raised brow. His cheeks turned red. \u201cYou never indicated that you felt any different than just friendship. And you\u2019re my brother\u2019s best friend. You live with him and work with him.\u201d \u201cYou never said anything either, Sam.<\/p>\n

This was a shock. We\u2019ve always just been friends.\u201d \u201cI know. I know. And it can stay that way. This does not need to be awkward. I swear I won\u2019t make it awkward at all. I\u2019ve already starting thinking about what I can post to my readers so they\u2019ll all calm down and the town\u2026. well, they\u2019ll have to fixate on something else.\u201d<\/p>\n

Sam busied himself with finding the plastic dome cover that went over the plate the cinnamon rolls were on. \u201cWhat if I want it to get awkward?\u201d I asked. \u201cWhat if we went out on a date?\u201d \u201cWhat?\u201d He dropped the top to the plate he was holding, and it bounced on the floor and rolled away. \u201cSam, would you like to go on a date with me? Tonight. We could go to dinner and a movie.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cA movie?\u201d \u201cUnless that\u2019s too cliche. I can think of something more original.\u201d \u201cYou can\u2019t be serious.\u201d \u201cOf course I am.\u201d I got off the stool and walked around the counter. Based on the post, I knew Sam was attracted to me, and I most certainly was to him, and I used that to my advantage. We were mere inches from each other now. \u201cI\u2019d like to take you out to dinner.\u201d \u201cAre you sure?\u201d he asked quietly.<\/p>\n

\u201cVery sure. And none of this has to be awkward. We can get some of that awkwardness right out of the way.\u201d \u201cHow?\u201d he asked, and his gaze traveled from my eyes to my lips. And I knew he was thinking about kissing me. So I closed the space between us and kissed him. There were times when I\u2019d fantasized about this. Sam was a good-looking man, and I was only human.<\/p>\n

Until today I\u2019d assumed the attraction was one- sided and I had always ignored it; now that I knew it was not, the flood gates had opened. I backed Sam up against the counter and put my hands to his neck to hold his head exactly where I wanted him.<\/p>\n
