But…\u201d \u201cNot everything can happen as we plan, Rudy,\u201d Dev cut in gently. \u201cApno ke liye kabhi kabhi hamein samjhaute karne padte hain. (Sometimes, we have to make compromises for our loved ones.)\u201d Rudra nodded. He was relieved that his bhaiya hadn\u2019t refused. If Dev had said no, Rudra would never have gone against his wishes, and that would have shattered his princess.<\/p>\n

Dev pulled him into a one-armed hug. He knew exactly what Rudra was thinking. Sometimes he wished his siblings didn\u2019t respect him so much. It would make their lives far less complicated. Now he had to think from both his perspective and theirs, because they would never voice their own. \u201cDo you want this marriage, Bachcha? Are you ready?\u201d He brushed a hand through Rudra\u2019s hair. He knew Rudra would do anything for Anika\u2019s happiness, but marriage wasn\u2019t about one person. It was about two.<\/p>\n

If even one heart wasn\u2019t ready, the relationship shouldn\u2019t move forward. Rudra sighed and nodded. He wasn\u2019t ready for marriage, but Anika wanted the wedding. And like always, her wishes came before his. Dev cupped his face and lifted it. \u201cAb bol… kya tu ready hai? (Now tell me… are you ready?)\u201d Rudra lowered his eyes. He couldn\u2019t lie to his bhaiya. Not willingly. Dev exhaled. \u201cI will talk to Mrs. Khurana, Rudy.<\/p>\n

The sky looked like it was on fire. Rudra twisted restlessly in his sleep. Dev was back home. For the past two weeks, he had been so busy taking care of everything that he\u2019d barely had a moment to breathe. Now that he was finally relieved, the stress was crashing down on him. Nightmares were plaguing his sleep. Rudra was seven again and sitting in the back seat with his bhaiya.<\/p>\n

They were going back home from a party and getting bored. Dev picked a fight with him, and Rudra was getting irritated. A thirteen-year-old Dev teased. \u201cAbey complaint ki dukaan, band kar apni complaints. Baby ka baby rahega tu. (You are a little complaint box! Stop your complaints. You\u2019ll always be a baby.)\u201d Rudra called out to his father, complaining again. Rushil turned for just a second. Roshni cried out in horror.<\/p>\n

\u201cRushil, aage dekhiye! (Rushil, look ahead!)\u201d Rushil turned back, but it was too late. The truck hit them head-on. Their car spun violently. Dev pulled Rudra closer, holding on tight, terrified. Their mother looked at them, helpless with fear. Rudra tried to reach for her, but the car was spinning too fast.<\/p>\n

Before he could touch her, the door flew open and his mother was thrown out. \u201cMumma!\u201d Rudra screamed and jolted awake, drenched in sweat. The door burst open, and Dev rushed inside.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
