Only two were left standing in the circle. Jan looked up at me from under the hood of her parka, and I returned her gaze. No words were spoken as we turned and walked slowly down the mountain trail to the village of Nangchen. Learning that there is more to life than just existing, more to life than eating, drinking, breathing and working has brought to my life renewed enthusiasm and vitality.

To find myself standing on a mountain in Tibet, watching the ancient Yogi definitely was exciting, and a far cry from selling refrigerators back in Canada. It came about this way: One morning, while relaxing in my study in the sixteenth-century cottage that we now call home, on the south coast of England, I received a very strange letter, postmarked Taiwan.

It was from a Buddhist group that had been using the herbal tea for over one year. They were excited about it and invited me to visit with them as their guest. All I had to do was to get there. My wife was excited about this also, for to get a letter of praise from far-off Taiwan, a country wise in the use of herbs for thousands of years, was praise indeed. I made the journey. Arriving at the temple tired, hot and out of breath, I was shown to a room with only a table, one chair and a slab of rock on which to sleep.

On the table was a pitcher full of water and a bowl to wash in. A drone of male singers echoed through the myriads of rooms and hallways and into my room. As I washed a chill came over me suddenly as I remembered where I was, alone, thousands of miles away from home in an atmosphere so totally foreign to me. A very old man came into the room carrying a bow! of rice with some kind of vegetable mixed with it, and a bowl of brown drink. I tasted it carefully and behold, it was my herbal tea.

Going into the main hall later that day, I noticed that only men were to be seen, and that these men were all of great age. The eldest was by far the wisest, and although very short and thin, he looked as though he was amazingly healthy. His voice was high and melodic, and he spoke English in flowery tones.

He greeted me and shivers ran down my back, and for some unknown reason, the hair on the back of my neck stood on end. “Did you know, Mr. Jason, that you are 49 years younger than the youngest man at this temple? You are now 51 years of age, are you not?”

He smiled at my surprise. “Mr. Jason, I am now 100 years of age.”

Copyright ©1980. However, I decided to keep the book as it was written by my father. It is, after all, the story of his life, written in his own words. I have however changed the title as my father always wanted it to be “The Sir Jason Winters Story”.

I want you to keep in mind as you read this book, it is for informational purposes only. Some information gathered and used by Sir Jason Winters when he wrote it may be outdated as it was written in the late 70’s and first published in 1980. My father tried many different things when he was ill and this book is not meant to be a guide for anyone to follow in attempt to heal an illness.

If you are ill, please do your own research and see your doctor. As Sir Jason always said, you must seek the advice of a qualified health professional for all your health concerns. Thank you for taking the time to read my father’s story. It is my honor to share it with you.
