It all makes sense now. \u201cHey, I said come here,\u201d the Joker snaps, stepping closer and grabbing for Moon\u2019s shoulder, trying to yank him off me. The anger hits so hard it knocks the buzz out of me. Whatever dizziness I felt before is gone\u2014burned off in a second. \u201cBack off, asshole,\u201d I say, shoving his hand away, hard.<\/p>\n

\u201cWho the fuck are you?\u201d he spits, eyes blazing. He\u2019s tall\u2014about my height\u2014and built too, but if this turns into a fight, I already know he won\u2019t stand a chance. \u201cDid you drug him?\u201d I growl, jaw tight, nodding toward Moon, now completely slumped against me. \u201cAre you crazy?\u201d the Joker says, faking a frown\u2014but there\u2019s no real surprise in his eyes. And to me, that says everything.<\/p>\n

I see the flicker of a decision cross his face, like he\u2019s about to try yanking Moon off me again\u2014but that\u2019s when Eric steps in, a wall of muscle at my side, looks him dead in the eye, and says, \u201cProblem?\u201d \u201cFuck you,\u201d the Joker snaps at me, then turns and disappears into the crowd. Eric turns back, giving both Moon and me a quick once-over before asking, \u201cWhat the fuck is going on?\u201d \u201cCan you help me get him out of here?\u201d I say, suddenly aware of how many people are still watching.<\/p>\n

We need to leave\u2014fast\u2014before anyone realizes who we are. \u201cThat douchebag spiked his drink.\u201d \u201cWhat?\u201d Eric says, totally thrown\u2014then he blinks and springs into action, wrapping one arm around Moon\u2019s waist while I steady him from the other side. But before we can get him away from the center of attention, the bartender in the Scooby-Doo costume steps in front of us. \u201cDo you need help?\u201d<\/p>\n

he asks, looking at Eric, then turns to me. \u201cI heard that guy spiked his drink.\u201d His voice is low, serious, waiting for me to confirm. \u201cI can call the police.\u201d I pause, glancing at Eric, unsure. If we involve the cops, this could end up in the news\u2014and I\u2019m not sure that\u2019s what Moon wants. \u201cNo,\u201d Moon says suddenly, lifting his head and turning toward me. \u201cNo police. Take me home.<\/p>\n

Please.\u201d \u201cAlright,\u201d I say, nodding. \u201cWe\u2019ll take you home.\u201d \u201cDo you know him?\u201d<\/p>\n

Just seeing him makes my blood boil. Which is why him kissing me in the Dallas Dragons\u2019 locker room turns my entire world fucking upside down\u2014in the worst way imaginable. But before we get to that, let me explain. I didn\u2019t start hating Moon out of nowhere. It\u2019s been years in the making. Years of taunting on the soccer field\u2014of him bullying me, calling me every name in the book, including but not limited to ballerina, bench princess, benchwarmer, buttercup, Cinderella (yeah, because she runs from the ball), mascot, prima (short for prima ballerina), waterboy, and every generic insult you can hurl at a gay guy in cleats: princess, cupcake, sweetheart, pretty boy, drama queen, sugarplum, Barbie, flower boy\u2014the list goes on.<\/p>\n

And not in the sexy, I\u2019m-flirting-with-you kind of way. In the I\u2019ll- humiliate-you-using-every-effeminate-word-I-can-think-of-and-make-sure- both-our-teams-hear-it kind of way. I don\u2019t even know what the guy\u2019s deal is. I mean, I look more masculine than he does, so I\u2019m guessing he\u2019s either overcompensating or just plain homophobic. Probably both. Normally I\u2019d ignore him\u2014like I always do\u2014but tonight, he crosses a line. It\u2019s the quarterfinals. The stadium\u2019s packed. The tension\u2019s thick enough to choke on.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
