And they didn\u2019t talk about it, but he knotted her straightaway, and that was just happening. It was a sweet and sleepy joining, without the intensity of their coupling when she had been in heat. Though she come several times just on his knot alone, in the morning, after the heat had retreated, she could not, and she had to touch herself, something he urged her to do, his deep voice in her ear telling her to stroke her pretty omega clitoris, to make herself come on her alpha\u2019s knot.<\/p>\n

And she did. But he wasn\u2019t her alpha. Then they were knotted together in bed, and it was different this time. During her heat, being knotted together afterward was only a little interlude until they had more sex or fell asleep, but now, she was crashing into herself and her body felt different than it had in heat, and everything seemed real now, like waking up after a long night of drinking\u2014 Well, no, she didn\u2019t know how that felt, really.<\/p>\n

She didn\u2019t get drunk as a general rule. She didn\u2019t like feeling out of control. What the hell had she done? \u201cYou\u2019re tense.\u201d He banded an arm around her waist, nuzzling in against her shoulder. \u201cHaving regrets?\u201d She sighed. \u201cThat obvious? Or are we still synced up in that way, where it feels like you can practically read my mind?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI could never read your mind, omega,\u201d he said. \u201cBut we were synced. And we\u2019re not now.\u201d He kissed her below her earlobe. \u201cI\u2019m sorry. I shouldn\u2019t have knotted you this morning. Some part of me doesn\u2019t want to let you go, just wants to trap you here with me.\u201d She twisted to look at him. \u201cBut\u2026 you said\u2026 I thought\u2026\u201d \u201cYeah, just a part of me.\u201d He smiled at her, a tender sort of smile, and he reached up to brush her hair away from her features.<\/p>\n

\u201cI get it. Really, I do. No one likes me, omega.\u201d Her heart clenched in a painful, sympathetic way. \u201cI like you, Rafe.\u201d He let out a noisy breath. \u201cNo, you don\u2019t,\u201d he said, and he kissed her. \u201cBut thanks for saying it.\u201d She kissed back, but then it was too hard to twist around like that and meet his lips, so she turned back around.<\/p>\n

It was quiet, then, the two of them lying together in the bed, his knot swelled inside her, his arm wrapped around her waist. \u201cHow long?\u201d she said. \u201cHow long will we be knotted together?\u201d he said. \u201cYeah,\u201d she said. \u201cNot because I want to get away from you, just because\u2026\u201d \u201cIt\u2019s all right,\u201d he said. \u201cIt\u2019s all right if you want to get away from me.\u201d More silence.<\/p>\n

I have this tendency to want to push omegaverse outside of the romance genre. I did write a police-procedural-type book once called Heat Trap, and someday, if I am sufficiently rich enough to write something that will never make any money, I do want to write my weirdass omegaverse-on-a- spaceship-like-The-Enterprise.<\/p>\n

Um, but this is not that weird. I don\u2019t think? However, this is not like most omegaverse books you will read. There is no HEA at the end of this book, and if this goes the way I hope it goes, it will not end if and when any of the characters do get together. I want this book to feel like a small-town, cozy soap like Virgin River or something. With knotting. Yes, I know. The Virgin River show is based on a series of books, and in each one of those books, it\u2019s a different couple, and at the end of each of those books, the couple ends up together.<\/p>\n

But this will be like the TV show. It will be like Dawson\u2019s Creek, only they\u2019re grown up. Like Hart of Dixie. Or Gilmore Girls, only it\u2019s about everyone in Stars Hollow. Or One Tree Hill. Or, you know, something on the CW before 2016. It\u2019s about a small town. Each book is meant to be short enough that you can read it in a sitting, and I\u2019d like the books to come out quickly.<\/p>\n

I\u2019m currently shooting for once a month, and we\u2019ll see how long I can keep up that pace. This first book only has one pairing for onscreen sex, and it\u2019s mf, but I do not know if she\u2019s going to end up with this guy or with someone else, or if there will be a pack. So, anyway, there\u2019s room for all sorts of pairings. If you\u2019re a strict polyamory person or a strict mf person, be aware. Thanks for giving my little book a shot. I really hope you like it.<\/p>\n
