I will not rest until I\u2019ve rooted out this nest of rats and exterminated every one of them.\u201d \u201cThe Purples have to be lying low after this.<\/p>\n

Who knows when Sam will reach out?\u201d Kasia let out a heavy sigh. \u201cCall the boys in for a meeting. I need everyone acting smart. Subtle drop-offs, no talking business in front of strangers. Act as if every move is being watched, because it might very well be.\u201d<\/p>\n

Kasia grabbed his arm. \u201cDon\u2019t relay any of this on the phone. Just call them in. Got it?\u201d Stevie nodded. If he was offended that Kasia thought he might be sloppy enough to discuss business on a phone line, where someone could be listening in, he was gracious enough\u2014or smart enough\u2014not to show it.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen do you want them in?\u201d \u201cRight now. As fast as they can get here.\u201d \u201cRight.\u201d Stevie hesitated for a moment, his eyes fixed on her forehead. \u201cBoss, you got, uh\u2026 you got something, right there.\u201d He pointed between his own brows. Kasia touched her head, then looked down at her ink-stained fingers. She closed her eyes for a moment, trying to push down the anger building inside her.<\/p>\n

\u201cThanks.\u201d She stood and headed towards the washroom. Her reflection showed a black mark, smeared between her eyes to her hairline. Kasia heaved a sigh. There was nothing like a leaky pen to remind her she was losing control, not just over work, but her entire life.<\/p>\n
