How horrid. Nancy nudged him. \u2018Yo,\u2019 she said. \u2018You all right, dude?\u2019 Wiggy nodded and wiped his eyes on his tatty old school tie. Titus sighed. \u2018I knew it \u2013 it\u2019s starting!\u2019 he said. \u2018The badgers have left Grimwood. Who will be next?\u2019 \u2018Absolute HOODLUMS!\u2019 quacked Ingrid, who had been napping on the caravan roof. \u2018Grimwood is better off without them.\u2019 \u2018I know!\u2019 said Willow brightly. \u2018Let\u2019s make Grimwood all POSH and EXCITING and GLAMOROUS and then everyone will want to stay here!<\/p>\n

Cos at the moment it\u2019s smelly and grubby and looks like a massive bin.\u2019 Titus scratched his snout. \u2018You could be onto something there, young rabbit,\u2019 he said. \u2018OK, nobody move. I\u2019ll be back soon!\u2019 And he zoomed really fast down the hill yelling \u2018Wheeeeeeeeeee!\u2019, which is what you have to do if you ever go really fast down a hill. Everyone waited and waited and waited.<\/p>\n

They waited so long that Ted wrote a poem, Willow assembled the world\u2019s longest daisy chain and a wasp called Igor died of boredom. Several hours later, Titus clambered back up the hill with a flip chart and a pointy stick. \u2018My dears! I have some exciting plans for Grimwood\u2019s future!\u2019 he trilled. He pointed to a sheet of paper on the flip chart which read: We build a MASSIVE treebonk stadium and host tournaments with teams visiting from all over the world.<\/p>\n

We\u2019d need to build hotels, an efficient road network and a small airport. We\u2019d also need to chop down most of the trees and live in little grey hotel rooms with no windows. \u2018NEXT,\u2019 shouted Frank. Grimwood Aquarium! We invite some deadly sharks, a giant octopus and some killer whales to come and live in Grimwood. However, we would also need to find loads of fish tanks and quite a bit of water. \u2018NEXT,\u2019 shouted everyone.<\/p>\n

We smear honey and glue over absolutely everything, so that whenever anyone visits they get stuck and cannot leave. \u2018I like it!\u2019 said Willow. Frank flew over to Titus and held his hoof. \u2018I don\u2019t think any of these plans will work, chief,\u2019 he said gently. Titus kicked over the flip chart and sighed. Then he slapped his knees. \u2018Right, that\u2019s it. I\u2019m going to pop over to Twinklenuts right now. They are our neighbours, so it\u2019s important that I am friendly and introduce myself.<\/p>\n

After all, it\u2019s the Grimwood way!\u2019 Everyone boinged their way across the mattresses on the Swamp of Despair, except Frank who swooped low over their heads. As the gang neared the edge of the swamp, they heard a low hoot from Frank, and he pointed one wing towards something looming up ahead of them.<\/p>\n

The mayor of Grimwood. Titus is a kind old stag who is good at baking and cries at soppy films about dolphins. Wants everyone to be lovely to each other. An extremely glamorous duck who used to be in the movies. Owns a global chain of luxury hotels but currently lives on a pile of old shopping trolleys. A grumpy owl with massive eyebrows who secretly likes everyone. He spends his evenings reading difficult novels and listening to jazz. The sun was shining, birds were tweeting, ants were anting and a squirrel was flying through the air at a dangerously high speed. \u2018Treeeeboooooonk!\u2019 it screamed, before splatting into a tree trunk and slumping to the ground. A whistle blew. \u2018OK, let\u2019s have a break, everyone!\u2019 hooted an owl. His name was Frank, and he was the coach of the Grimwood treebonk team. He had very large eyebrows because some owls just do. Willow, an outrageously cute little bunny rabbit, was holding a tray of juicy orange slices for the players.<\/p>\n

\u2018COME ON, TEAM!\u2019 she bellowed. \u2018Suck on these wedges of fruity goodness! Feel the vitamins pump through your veins! I wanna see you thwacking those tree trunks MUCH harder, capeesh?\u2019 The gaggle of dizzy squirrels staggered towards her. One of them was MASSIVE and had an extremely bushy tail. That was Nancy, and she wasn\u2019t a squirrel at all.<\/p>\n

She was, in fact, a fox. \u2018Cheers, Willow,\u2019 she grunted, grabbing a fistful of orange. Nancy was the only fox on Grimwood\u2019s treebonk team, but she didn\u2019t care. She wasn\u2019t quite as fast as the squirrels, but she was strong and her tail was powerful. It helped catapult her from tree to tree, and she was quickly becoming Grimwood\u2019s star player.<\/p>\n

Not bad for a scruffy fox from the Big City. \u2018Yay, go Nancy!\u2019 shouted Ted, her little brother. He waved at her from the sidelines. Treebonk really wasn\u2019t Ted\u2019s thing \u2013 he was more into acting and singing and writing poems about clouds \u2013 but he enjoyed watching his big sis practise. Especially if he could eat cakes at the same time. What the jiggins is Grimwood? Grimwood is a forest far, far, faaaaar away. It is full of trees and sky and mud and stones.<\/p>\n

It smells weird and there\u2019s loads of litter and old shopping trolleys. There\u2019s a broken electricity pylon in the middle of it that buzzes strangely.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
