Zeus tightened his grip on my hair and swung me around, throwing me into the floor. I seethed in pain, propping myself up as I debated just blasting his ass right out the door, but he had way too much leverage on me.<\/p>\n

Only an idiot would attack him. So I remained dead silent as I rose to my feet, wiping blood from the corner of my mouth where I’d bit my lip in the fall. “Nemesis has friends I don’t approve of,” Zeus began, stalking towards me and I inched away from him, “I heard she’s picking two friends of hers to join you. Who are they?” “I dunno. I was kind of hoping for Charlie Sheen and George Clooney.”<\/p>\n

I offered. Zeus snarled at me, grabbing me by the front of my shirt and slamming me into the bed post. It cracked under the pressure, but managed not to give way as Zeus held me there, twisting his fist in my t-shirt. I gritted my teeth as he leaned in close to my face.<\/p>\n

“Don’t play games with me, Hades. You’re in no position to do so. Don’t let Nemesis fight in this battle.” “‘Scuse you? You told me I could pick any ten gods. And I chose Nemesis. Because she isn’t a piece of shit.” “You can have Ares.” “Yeah, that’ll be delightful.<\/p>\n

Let’s have the bloodthirsty god of war charge into a war and go on a killing spree, so he really does kill a Titan and ruptures the balance and poof. Zeus, king of the Greeks, will never exist.” I sneered at him. Zeus slugged me in the jaw and I hit he floor a moment later, breathing hard. I wiped my hand across my mouth, tasting more blood before Zeus sank his hand into my hair and I hissed in pain as he tore me to my feet and shoved me back on the bed.<\/p>\n

Instincts screamed at me to run, so I shot to my feet to move for the door, but Zeus grabbed me and flung me down on the bed again, climbing on top of me and pinning me down by my wrists. I spat in his face and bashed my head against his, causing him to hiss for a moment before bashing his head back into mine.<\/p>\n

“Select and… delete.” Click. I should have felt at least a twinge of guilt, but that was an emotion I had long ago banished to the darkest, deepest sphincter of this universe. A yawn erupted past my lips as I sat back on my bed against the black and green pillows I’d piled up behind me to prop myself up. I stared at the empty email inbox, a frown working itself onto my face. I wasn’t sure why I’d even let Charon talk me into this idiotic method of communication in the first place.<\/p>\n

It was frustrating, irritating, and I’d given my email to Ambrosius, not Alaric. Although, I mused thoughtfully, rubbing at my jaw as another lock of hair fell from the damned hairclip Persephone had gotten me for Christmas, it was also an intriguing email. I should have known someone had managed to snag Alaric and drag him to Tartarus. His seizure wasn’t caused by moving after a lumbar puncture.<\/p>\n

It was caused by magic negatively interacting with his molecules. There was a timid knock at my door and I rolled my eyes, snapping my laptop shut and tossing it onto the floor where it crashed loudly and the screen cracked. Not that I would need it anymore anyway because I wasn’t going to read anymore stupid emails or requests or whatever…<\/p>\n

Except I would need it to video chat with Persephone. I cursed under my breath and rolled to the side of my bed, grabbing the laptop up and in the process repairing the damage caused by the careless toss. Another timid knock sent bolts of irritation through me. Excuse me, who the fuck do you think you are trying to rush me? “What?” I snapped impatiently, sitting back on the bed and quickly taking my hair down.<\/p>\n

Because God forbid my servants see me with a personal, sentimental object. They weren’t allowed in my quarters whatsoever. This was my santuary and I didn’t want any grubby paws riffling through my drawers. A moment later, the door swung open to reveal a tiny male servant. He was half-fae, half-imp. A combination of the worst creatures to walk the realms. His white hair was cut short and choppy, like it was done by a blind epileptic man, and his eyes were mismatched brown and green. A none-too- attractive mole centered just beside his left nostril.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
