As long as Eddie threw the muzzle, Diamond raced across the yard and brought it back. If Eddie didn\u2019t throw it, Diamond would drop it at Melody, Liza, or Howie\u2019s feet. \u201cEnough already,\u201d Melody said. \u201cWe have more important things to do than play fetch.\u201d \u201cLike what?\u201d Liza asked. \u201cWe still have to get our money back,\u201d Melody told her. \u201cMelody is right,\u201d Eddie blurted. \u201cMr. McDawsgle sold us things we don\u2019t need.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s all his fault.\u201d \u201cWait a second,\u201d Howie said calmly. \u201cIt\u2019s not his fault we decided to buy these things. He just suggested them. We could have said no.\u201d \u201cHowie is right,\u201d Liza said. \u201cIt\u2019s my own fault that I\u2019m stuck with a fish instead of | a bag full of chocolate.\u201d Eddie flopped back in the grass and sighed.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere is no way I\u2019m keeping a worthless muzzle,\u201d he said as Diamond dropped the muzzle beside Eddie\u2019s feet again. Eddie was tired of throwing. He was tired of the muzzle. He covered his eyes with his arm and ignored Diamond. Just then, the door to Clover Patch Pet Store swung open. Mr. McDawsgle hur- ried outside. He wore boots, bright green coveralls, and green leather gloves.<\/p>\n

Five dogs on leashes pulled him across the lawn. \u201cThose must be the dogs the Humane Society has up as adoption,\u201d Melody said. \u201cWhy in the world is Mr. McDawgle wearing gloves to walk them?\u201d Howie asked. \u201cIt\u2019s not cold outside.\u201d \u201cMaybe he\u2019s allergic to dogs,\u201d Liza said. \u201cThat would make sense,\u201d Howie said. \u2014 \u201cRemember how he avoided Diamond?\u201d \u201cAnd he didn\u2019t get near that little white dog,\u201d Melody said. \u201cI\u2019m sure Mr. McDawegle will be fine as long as he doesn\u2019t actually touch a dog,\u201d Liza said.<\/p>\n

Unfortunately, Diamond\u2019s ears perked up as soon as he saw the other dogs. His tail started wagging. Then, before the kids could say, \u201cThe luck of the Irish be with you,\u201d Diamond took off running. Leprechaun \u201cCome back here,\u201d Eddie yelled as he chased after Diamond. Liza, Melody, and Howie raced after the dog, too. It was like a St. Patrick\u2019s Day parade with five dogs leading a short man wearing green, a galloping spotted dog, and four frantic kids down the sidewalk. Diamond didn\u2019t stop running until he reached the park.<\/p>\n

The kids were panting by the time they finally caught up with Diamond. \u201cIsn\u2019t that sweet?\u201d Liza said. \u201cMr. McDawegle is playing fetch with the dogs.\u201d \u201cAnd talking to them,\u201d Howie added.<\/p>\n

Doomed The Real Beast St. Patrick\u2019s Day Activities cs sae Fifty-Two Pickup \u201cNo fair,\u201d Eddie griped. \u201cIt\u2019s the first warm day in March and we have to spend the entire weekend baby-sitting Aunt Mathilda\u2019s goofy dog in Sheldon City. We should be back home playing soccer.\u201d \u201cT think it\u2019s perfect,\u201d Howie told Eddie. \u201cWe get to stay with my grandmother while your aunt plays cards in the tour- nament. Then your aunt can drive my grandmother back to Bailey City for a St. Patrick\u2019s Day visit.\u201d<\/p>\n

Eddie flopped down on the porch of Howie\u2019s grandmother\u2019s house. His friends, Howie, Melody, and Liza, sat in the grass. Eddie\u2019s aunt had just driven them all the way from Bailey City to Sheldon City. \u201cBut what about me?\u201d he asked. \u201cWhat ] am I supposed to do for fun this week- end?\u201d The words were barely out of Eddie\u2019s mouth when Diamond galloped across the yard and licked Eddie on the chin. Eddie pushed the giant dalmatian away. Then he tossed his blue ball cap for Dia- mond to fetch.<\/p>\n

Liza dug deep into the pocket of her backpack and pulled out a deck of play- ing cards. \u201cI think a card-playing tourna- ment sounds exciting,\u201d she said. Eddie grabbed the deck of cards from Liza\u2019s hands. \u201cYou want excitement?\u201d he asked. \u201cPll teach you a very exciting game.\u201d Liza grinned.\u201cNow you’re talking,\u201d she said. \u201cGather \u2019round,\u201d Eddie told his friends.<\/p>\n
