In any case, it\u2019s almost comical to imagine him walking the aisles of a grocery store, tossing prepackaged cheese and meat into the cart.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhere do you get the money?\u201d \u201cI\u2019ve saved up quite a bit of money over the years, both from working for it and from stealing it from those who don\u2019t deserve their riches.\u201d I snort. \u201cOkay, Robin Hood.\u201d I\u2019m pretty sure he smiles, but I can\u2019t be sure because he turns to grab something from the fridge just as his lips twitch. \u201cThese days, though, I mostly make money from selling my wood carvings and the furniture I refurbish.\u201d \u201cRight.\u201d I remember him saying that in the garage. He continues to cook, saut\u00e9ing various vegetables with chicken until he brings two plates of food to the table and sets one before me.<\/p>\n

\u201cThanks.\u201d We\u2019re about halfway through the meal when Ambrose clears his throat and says, \u201cI\u2019ll require your presence at an event this Saturday.\u201d I pause with my fork mid-air. \u201cWhat kind of event?\u201d \u201cA masquerade. Sort of like a pre-Halloween social thing. There will be a lot of important people there, and I need a date.\u201d \u201cNo.\u201d He cocks his head, his brow furrowed. \u201cWhy not?\u201d \u201cI may have agreed to a deal with you, but it did not involve going to events as your date.\u201d \u201cIt\u2019s at a beautiful mansion in the mountains, and you don\u2019t have to dance,\u201d he reasons.<\/p>\n

\u201cI just need you there for show. I\u2019ll handle all the details, down to your outfit.\u201d \u201cStill no.\u201d If he thinks I\u2019m going to help him out by being arm candy to make him look good, he\u2019s delusional. \u201cI\u2019ll knock fifty years off our bargain if you go with me.\u201d I pause. Now that is tempting.<\/p>\n

She does not know or have any relation to this child. Multiple men try to harm the FMC throughout the story, including an attempted drugging (that she notices before it is successful), and sexual assault (groping; no penetration).<\/p>\n

Lastly, the FMC kills and tortures multiple people throughout the story in detail. All spicy scenes between the FMC and MMC are fully consensual and non-violent.
