We waited for someone to walk out the back so we could walk in without using our key card. Now, more than before, we needed to be cautious. For all we knew, Knox hadn\u2019t yet realized we were in Little Rock. But given the people we\u2019d talked to, he\u2019d definitely know soon enough. By the time we reached the door to our room, James was dragging.<\/p>\n

I took the keycard from him and opened the door, dropping my packages on the floor inside the room so I could take his. \u201cYou need a nap.\u201d \u201cI\u2019m not a damned baby,\u201d he grunted. \u201cTrust me, that\u2019s the last thing I\u2019d accuse you of being, but you\u2019re still recovering and you need to rest.\u201d He reluctantly headed over to the freshly made bed. \u201cWhat are you gonna do?\u201d \u201cLook into Razor. You got a legal name for him?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cTimothy Ransor.\u201d I cocked a brow. \u201cTimothy?\u201d He chuckled. \u201cWhy do you think he goes by Razor?\u201d \u201cTouch\u00e9.\u201d He slid onto the bed, tugging the pillows on his side of the bed to get more comfortable, then closed his eyes, his hands over his stomach. I moved to the sofa, casting a glance back at him. \u201cYou don\u2019t look comfortable.\u201d \u201cWhat are you?\u201d he grunted. \u201cThe nap police?\u201d \u201cYou usually sleep on your side,\u201d I said as I took a seat and grabbed my laptop.<\/p>\n

\u201cTake a nap. Don\u2019t just rest.\u201d His eyes cracked open. \u201cYou plan to always be this bossy?\u201d \u201cYou think this is bossy?\u201d I asked with a snort. \u201cYou ain\u2019t seen nothin\u2019 yet.\u201d He grunted but kicked off his boots and turned on his side, facing the wall.<\/p>\n

Strangely, I thought yours were.\u201d He scowled but kept quiet. I closed the distance between us and perched on the edge of the peeling pleather recliner beside him.<\/p>\n

\u201cSorry.\u201d When he didn\u2019t respond, I placed my hand over his. \u201cJames.\u201d He turned to look at me, his face blank, neutral in that way I\u2019d come to recognize\u2014he wasn\u2019t pissed at my criticism. He was worried. I\u2019d spent the past seven days with him, 24\/7, and I\u2019d started to learn his tells. \u201cWe\u2019re safe,\u201d I insisted, giving his hand a squeeze. At least we were safe at the moment.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
