He wrapped his fingers around the man\u2019s wrist and pulled. It was slow going and Jesse was sweating by the time he got them both to the thin mattress in the corner. He rolled the man to the far side of the mattress next to the wall before collapsing on what remained of the thin bedding. Jesse took several measured breaths in and out until his heart rate slowed to a more normal panicked level.<\/p>\n

He wasn\u2019t a shrimp or anything but the guy had practically been dead weight. That actually kind of worried Jesse. He had every intention of escaping this hell hole. It was going to be really hard to do so when he had to drag a man behind him. When Jesse turned to look at the guy, his eyes locked with a set of deep blues that were fully aware of the world around them.<\/p>\n

Jesse blinked, wondering for a moment if he had imagined it. When the guy raised his finger to his lips for silence, Jesse finally realized two things\u2026one, this guy was fully aware of everything, which meant he was probably playing dumb for a reason. And two, Jesse knew this guy.<\/p>\n

\u201cRoman?\u201d Jesse mouthed. \u201cI kind of thought you had gotten away, kid.\u201d \u201cI did.\u201d Jesse shrugged. \u201cThey caught me again.\u201d Roman\u2019s blue eyes rolled. \u201cIt wasn\u2019t my fault this time. Some wannabe vampire kidnapped me and then traded me off for a suitcase full of cash.\u201d And if he ever got his hands on Bruce, he\u2019d show the guy that humans should be feared just as much as paranormals. \u201cHe wanted\u2014\u201d Jesse pressed his lips together, suddenly wondering if he was giving away too much information.<\/p>\n

He wasn\u2019t sure who he could trust anymore. For all he knew, Roman Polaris had been a captive for so long, he was on the hunters\u2019 side now. \u201cHe wanted what?\u201d Roman asked. \u201cIt doesn\u2019t matter.\u201d Jesse shook his head. \u201cHow did you get here?\u201d \u201cThey move me around a lot, never keeping me in the same place for more than a few days.<\/p>\n

I think they are worried if they keep me in one place too long, someone might mount a rescue mission.\u201d \u201cIf they knew where you were, I\u2019m sure they would. They seem worried about you.\u201d That was probably safe to say. Roman had friends and family that were searching for him, and if the hunters were moving him around so much, they had to know that already. \u201cNo, no.\u201d Roman\u2019s eyes went wide. \u201cThey can\u2019t come for me. The hunters are expecting that, planning for it. They\u2019ll kill anyone that tries.\u201d<\/p>\n
