He turns back to the flowers. \u201cI can\u2019t decide if I should go for pink or yellow.\u201d He shrugs his big shoulders, and it touches me, this big burly man buying flowers for him mom. \u201cYellow matches the season, and we\u2019ve got these premade bouquets that come with foliage to complement the freesias.\u201d<\/p>\n

I come out from behind the counter to show him the bouquets in the display at the back of the shop. \u201cAh yes. Perfect.\u201d The man comes right up close to me, and I catch a whiff of something spicy. A masculine cinnamon body wash. My body quivers, and there\u2019s heat between my legs.<\/p>\n

I step away quickly, scurrying back to the safety of the counter. This stranger is having all sorts of effects on my body. It\u2019s disconcerting. He places the bouquet on the counter, and I grab a sheet of cellophane. \u201cI\u2019ll just wrap this up for you.\u201d His eyes watch my lips, and I feel nervous, my fingers fumbling under his gaze. \u201cI\u2019m Karl.\u201d \u201cTrina.\u201d \u201cTrina,\u201d he repeats as if testing my name out on his tongue.<\/p>\n

I probably should have come up with a different name when I ran away, but Trina is close enough to feel like my own, but different enough so as not to give me away. \u201cNice shop you\u2019ve got here.\u201d He\u2019s talking about the shop, but his gaze remains on me. \u201cI don\u2019t own it. I just work here.\u201d I tie up the flowers, but my hands are restless under his gaze. I put a sprinkling of chocolate hearts in the wrapping.<\/p>\n

\u201cCan you send these for me?\u201d \u201cSure.\u201d I show him the price list, and he writes an address for me. \u201cYou want to write a note?\u201d I hand him one of our cards, and I wait while he writes.
