There are laws against scams like this,\u201d Shayla accused. \u201cYou certainly don\u2019t have to buy anything from me. I\u2019m not twisting your arm, and frankly, dear, you\u2019re starting to get on my nerves.<\/p>\n

Do you want the antidote or not?\u201d She sighed. \u201cYou know I do, but I don\u2019t have that much cash on me.\u201d \u201cHmm. That\u2019s a pretty ring you\u2019re wearing.\u201d Madame Shaniqua smiled at her, eyeing the emerald signet ring Shayla wore on her right hand. \u201cNo. Absolutely not.\u201d \u201cI don\u2019t accept checks, dearie.\u201d Shayla dug in her purse to see what she could come up with. She could only scrounge together fifty dollars. \u201cThis is all I have. Please, can\u2019t you make something for this?\u201d she pleaded, ready to kiss this old biddy\u2019s feet.<\/p>\n

Madame Shaniqua pursed her lips and put her finger under her chin as though she were contemplating whether it was worth her time. \u201cOkay. I think I can whip something up for you, but mind you, for fifty dollars, the antidote won\u2019t be as potent. It will take a week before it takes effect.\u201d<\/p>\n

It was on the tip of her tongue to ask the woman what the heck she was going to do in the meantime, but Shayla thought better of it. At least she didn\u2019t have to go on like this for the rest of her life. She handed the woman the money and the old lady counted it, making sure it was all there.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt seems like everything\u2019s in order. I\u2019m going to the kitchen and fix you up something. I won\u2019t be more than a few minutes.\u201d When the old woman left the room, Dumbass spoke to her. \u201cLet me out of this jar!\u201d Shayla glared at the little man. \u201cNo way. Not after all the trouble you caused me. Why didn\u2019t you tell me the love potion you gave me would make men react like that?\u201d<\/p>\n

Dumbass shrugged. \u201cIt wasn\u2019t supposed to. Maybe there was a miscalculation with the ingredients.\u201d \u201cHow can you be so nonchalant after what you did?\u201d \u201cIsn\u2019t this what you wanted? You won the affection of your precious Ben.\u201d \u201cBut the potion made him all weird. It\u2019s changed his personality.\u201d \u201cNo. The potion only made him want you. It doesn\u2019t change people\u2019s personalities.\u201d \u201cAnd how in the world would you know that if you weren\u2019t supposed to be in your aunt\u2019s potions in the first place?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI haven\u2019t been around my aunt without learning a few things.\u201d \u201cWhy did you do it, Dumbass? Especially when you know you were playing around with something you didn\u2019t really understand?\u201d Shayla asked, trying to make sense of everything. \u201cMy name is Cletus!\u201d \u201cWhatever. Tell me why you did it.\u201d<\/p>\n
