I look at her from the corner of my eye as she flits around my head, poking at my skull. \u201cWhat are you doing?\u201d I ask, leaning away from Rev\u2019s strange prodding. \u201cChecking for a head injury.\u201d Zuri scoffs, \u201cGood call.\u201d \u201cI\u2019m serious! I can kind of control the shifts now.<\/p>\n

I knew Zuri would be opposed no matter what, but I hoped the two of them would at least be open to hearing my side of things. \u201cReally?\u201d Reverie lands on a small fluffy pillow in the middle of the coffee table that we keep there for this type of situation.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s hard to have a conversation with a sprite when they\u2019re seated on the back of the couch or someone\u2019s shoulder. \u201cYeah. I mean, I had a hard time coming to terms with it too, but I really think he\u2019s a good guy.\u201d Zuri\u2019s lips pinch into a line, but she doesn\u2019t reply, and Reverie looks thoughtful, tilting her head so her purple hair cascades over one shoulder, magenta streaks sparkling through it as she considers.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo let\u2019s see this shifting then!\u201d Reverie stands and claps her hands. \u201cI\u2019m not a show pony. Besides, I\u2019m still learning. I kinda have to, like, feel it first? Or be in the right mood?\u201d They both stare at me blankly and I throw up my hands. \u201cI don\u2019t know, okay? My inner animal has an attitude or something.\u201d I glower as my lips pull down. \u201cWell, that\u2019s okay,\u201d Reverie backpedals, \u201cI\u2019m sure if you keep practicing it\u2019ll get easier.\u201d<\/p>\n
