Be kind,\u201d Mom chides, but Sadie just smirks. She\u2019s a bit of an asshole. Willa blows a strand of her blond waves out of her eyes and gives me a look. \u201cHe\u2019s shy, Mags. You\u2019re gonna have to just straight up ask him out.\u201d<\/p>\n

I bite my lip. \u201cI don\u2019t think he\u2019s shy. I think he\u2019s hesitant, and I don\u2019t know why. We really haven\u2019t talked about his past relationships. Maybe he\u2019s been burned.\u201d \u201cSo, ask,\u201d Willa suggests. Like I hadn\u2019t thought of that. \u201cMaybe I will. I did say I was going to bring him a loaf of bread.\u201d \u201cYou told him you were coming here?\u201d Willa asks, raising a brow at me. \u201cYes. I\u2019m not kidding when I say we talk constantly.\u201d \u201cDoes he talk about his family?\u201d Mom asks, and I lean on my elbows.<\/p>\n

\u201cYeah, he has a sister. Both his parents have passed.\u201d Mom makes a face. \u201cAw, how sad. Tell him I\u2019ll be his mom.\u201d \u201cEw, no. I don\u2019t want to date my brother.\u201d I gag, and she gives me an exasperated look. \u201cHow old are you?\u201d I smirk as Sadie rolls her eyes at me. \u201cAre we still doing a Galentine\u2019s thing since you are on the cusp of having a boy toy?\u201d Now I\u2019m the one rolling my eyes at my sister. Before I can answer, my mom says, \u201cI don\u2019t even know why you\u2019re doing that.<\/p>\n
