Behind us were several others: seasoned alphas and betas who’d spent their lives in positions of power. All of us, running to a scene we feared would be yet another nightmare. By the time we reached the settlement, the sun hung low in the sky, its light casting everything in hues of gold and gray. The smell hit me first—ash, blood, fear. Death. I stopped at the edge of the clearing, shifting back into human form before I could fully process what lay ahead.

Magnus shifted a moment later, his towering frame stepping up beside me. The others followed suit, the sounds of their paws fading into silence as they transformed. No one spoke. The settlement was a graveyard. Burned houses stood like skeletons, shredded furniture filled the ground. Claw marks decorated the walls still standing, the dirt, anything that could be marked and destroyed.

And the blood—it was everywhere. The ground, the doorways, the trees, it was even visible in the charred remains of some houses. My stomach churned as I took it all in. Magnus’s voice cut through the heavy silence. “Fan out. Look for survivors. Evidence. Anything that tells us what happened here.” The others nodded, their faces grim, and began to move. I stayed rooted for a moment longer, my feet feeling like they’d been buried in the dirt.

This wasn’t the first massacre I’d seen, but that didn’t make it easier. “Klara,” Magnus said, stepping closer. His tone was quieter now, low enough that only I could hear. “Stick close.” “I’m fine,” I replied, shaking off the weight of my thoughts. His mouth twitched, the corner lifting into something that might have been a smirk if the situation weren’t so dire.

“Didn’t say you weren’t. Just don’t go wandering off.” I rolled my eyes but didn’t argue. There was no point. The group spread out, picking through the wreckage. The first few minutes felt hopeless. There were no signs of life, only destruction.

Magnus Epilogue 1kitap1.com/en Alpha King’s Runaway Mate You think you can just walk away from me, Klara? The night I meet my fated mate, I’m supposed to be presented to the king at a ball, like a good little omega. But I don’t want to meet the king, and I certainly don’t want to be his mate.

So I sneak out into the gardens…where I meet a gorgeous, mysterious guard. His scars and dark eyes scream danger, but what’s the harm in one night of fun? But the next morning, I feel an irresistible pull. I follow the mating bond back to him…but he’s not a guard at all. He’s Magnus Ashfjord, king of over a hundred wolf packs. And my pack betrayed him in the past. He looks me dead in the eyes and says four words I’ll never forget: “You’re not my mate.”

Three years later, I don’t want anything to do with the king who rejected me. At least, that’s what I thought. But when I see Magnus on another woman’s arm, I almost tear her throat out. And from the fire in his eyes, one thing is certain: He’s not done with me, either.
