To this end, you will find enclosed two bank cards, each linked to an account with enough funds for all your essentials, including Juni’s care. While I would endeavour to have returned you all to the Joneses abode, currently it is not a viable option. I am yet to be fully convinced that your safety there could be assured. Therefore, I would have you collect your belongings for an extended stay with Andras.

I have discussed this with him, and he is happy to have you stay for as long as it takes to secure you a safe home. As for your studies, I will give you the week to make these arrangements. We shall begin your Magical education after this. I expect to see you all for your first lesson at the Manor next Monday at four in the afternoon.

As for your wish, Makayla, I have also enclosed a gift for yourself and Juni to possibly enjoy this weekend. It is a small start towards your goals, but perhaps something blue will be an agreeable first step. Kindest regards, The Count Inside the envelope were two black credit cards in each of her and Oakes’ names. How they’d made that happen overnight, with none of their ID, Makayla wasn’t sure she even wanted to know.

There was also a second smaller envelope with the logo of a well-known women’s clothing chain, that had always been too pricey for Makayla to go inside. It was a gift certificate for two hundred dollars. Juni of course was very excited by the idea of spending it on the weekend.

With that thought, Oakes finally got her off to school with a spring in her blue suede steps. Makayla, however, had mixed feelings about the envelope’s contents. It had been such a long time since anyone had told her what to do. How she lived her life had been her own decision for at least a decade. So long as she attended school and made sure not to draw any ‘concerned adult’ attention, she was left to her own devices.

A part of her rebelled at the instructions laid out in the Count’s letter. She wanted to fume at the audacity. How dare he tell her to give up her job, move out of her room?

I want to thank everyone who said a kind or encouraging word to me about this project; it was a marathon and your cheers helped get me across the finish line. A huge shout out has to go to my fellow Boss Bitch Writing Lady, Cleo Browne. Deciding to write a book was a bold choice for both of us, but damn girl, we got there. Thank you for being my sounding board, my cheerleader and my friend. Here’s to us and to many more books.

Also, I could not have done this without the patience and support of my man. I love you, I appreciate you and I will make the tea next time. I need to thank my Beta Readers. It was really hard for me to send my newly finished baby of work for criticism and you guys tolerated my helicopter parenting. Thank you for reading and for your feedback. While I like to think I’m pretty creative, I am no visual artist.
