Avenge – Indy Quillen

back and forth … back and forth… while he considered what he should do next. On one hand he’d already fulfilled his promise. He’d supplied the piece of requested intel to Lydia, his former FBI handler, with her guarantee of keeping his location secret. There was that. But the situation had evolved. The phone call from Mitrione had left him in the dark and given him a sense of foreboding. So, he had reached out to his own informants and gathered a lot of bits and pieces.
But the individual pieces only began to make sense once he’d put them all together and looked at the bigger picture. And yet, he’d never have pulled it all together with any cohesion if it hadn’t been for Lydia’s visit. She knew the “secret” pieces of the puzzle … the fact both Senator Everett Blackstone and the FBI Supervisor, James Mitrione, had been partners years ago. She knew about their embezzlement of millions of dollars from the non-profit they had handled.
That info, meshed with his new intel, gave him insight into these recent game play changes Mitrione had enacted. And it didn’t bode well for Lydia. Kendrick had played out all the scenarios. If he didn’t relay the new info on to Lydia, she’d never learn of it—most likely because she’d be dead. On the other hand, if he did relay the info to her, he just might save her life.
He stopped pacing and focused upon the moonlit ocean waves fanning out and kissing the pristine beaches, then withdrawing again. The rhythmic motion and soothing sound of the surf calmed him. He took a deep breath and faced his reality. The ironic reality that he could save the life of the one person in the entire world who knew where he was hiding.
If he ignored the new intel, he’d never again have to worry about the former agent showing up, unannounced and forcing his hand in a threat to reveal his location. He’d be safe. A heavy sigh escaped his lips. He thought of all the times Lydia had fought for him against the Bureau…how many times she’d taken his side in crazy scenarios. They’d built a tenuous trust between them that wouldn’t make sense to most people.
But on the other hand, he and his former FBI handler were not “most” people. Kendrick had to admit, even to himself, that he did have a moral compass, even in his profession.

1kitap1.com/en AUTHOR’S NOTE The Fox Walker stories are based on real locations in and around the Rocky Mountains and San Juan Mountain Range in Colorado, as well as the North Cascades in the state of Washington, but please know that many of the names of places are as fictionalized as the characters who inhabit them. Also, although much research went into the understanding of the Ute nation and its culture, as well as their use of the Shoshone language, the Fox Walker character is a creation of my imagination and a work of fiction based on my life-long fascination with the Native American culture.
Thus, I did take certain liberties in that creation and use of the language. As for the tracking and bushcraft survival skills Walker possesses, these are based on real skills and knowledge that many dedicated wilderness experts use and share with others.
