She waved to the sofa. “Please have a seat. Would you like something to drink? I was just having a glass of red wine. Or I have beer or soda.” “A glass of wine would be great.” He sat down on the couch and looked around. Her apartment was filled with eclectic furniture, but someone she made it work. “You have a nice place.” He knew he was stalling. What he wanted to do was jump right in to ask about her lactating breasts.

“Thanks.” She placed a glass of wine on the coffee table and then looked at herself self-consciously. “Oops. I guess I should go get dressed. I’ll be right back.” Even though Derek wanted to protest, he didn’t want to seem like a horny letch– even though he felt like one at the moment. He admired the sway of her ass he watched her walk toward her bedroom. Within five minutes, she was back, clad in black leggings and a loose- fitting sweater that kept slipping off her shoulder.

He could tell she was braless; her tits sagged slightly with their weight under her sweater. Curling up on the loveseat adjacent from the sofa, she peeked at him under her lashes. She looked like she had just gotten out of bed after a passionate encounter with a lover. Derek decided to take the bull by the horns. “Sydney, may I ask you a personal question?”

As if she knew what direction he was headed, she hugged herself, hiding her breasts behind her folded arms. “Um…sure, I guess.” “Off the record,” he clarified. “Of course.” His eyes dropped to her folded arms. “You mentioned earlier that you didn’t have a baby. But how is it that you’re…” He searched in vain for the right words.

“That your body is…” He waved his hands to indicate her breasts. Her lashes fluttered down. Her voice was soft and low. “You want to know why I am lactating even though I’ve never been pregnant?” “Yes.” “This is kinda embarrassing.” “I swear, I would never say anything to anyone.” He put his hand up in the air. She searched his eyes for a long moment before she relaxed. “I have this medical condition where I produce milk. It started in college. The doctors can’t tell me what’s wrong and…

and…it’s so hard…” Her voice broke and she dropped her head into her hands in despair and started to cry. Derek was instantly on his feet and knelt on one knee in front of her. He patted her shoulder to try to comfort her. “Hey, I’m sorry to distress you. I didn’t mean to bring up something painful.” She sniffled and looked up, her eyes sad. “It’s not as horrible as I’m making it out to be, but it’s definitely inconvenient.

It certainly makes dating a challenge.” Derek was taken aback and he blurted, “Why the hell would that be a problem?

Derek frowned at the interruption, thinking about all the things he needed to do today. Besides reviewing the two bills coming up for a vote, he had to make calls to several donors.

The fundraising was never-ending for a United States Senator. It wasn’t his favorite part of the job, but Derek was up for re-election next year and he needed deep pockets to run a successful campaign. His poll numbers were up, but it didn’t mean much in this political climate. If someone in his party screwed up, there could always be blowback and he’d have to spend millions in ads to repair his reputation. It wasn’t fair, but that was politics.

Derek was proud to be one of the youngest senators elected to Congress. He was only thirty-nine years old and had already co-sponsored three bills during his time at the capitol. People complained constantly about Washington gridlock, but he was determined to prove them wrong. “Who is it, Scott? I didn’t remember seeing anything on my calendar.” “It’s a journalist from National Policy Magazine. Her name is Sydney Bell. Should I send her in?

She’s been waiting for a while.” As much as he wanted to cancel the meeting, he couldn’t afford to pass up free publicity. Derek looked at his watch and mentally calculated what he could move around in his schedule. “I could spare fifteen minutes. Send her in.” “Yes, sir.” Derek tapped my fingers impatiently. He hoped this interview was worth his time. A good write-up in a national magazine would definitely impress the big donors. He spaced out, fantasizing about a time when he wouldn’t need to worry about begging for campaign funds and he could just concentrate on making good laws.

He knew some of my colleagues didn’t feel the same way, but he had always been an idealist. “Senator Parker, it’s nice to meet you. Thank you for taking the time from your busy day.” The feminine voice was soft and confident. Derek looked up and almost forgot to breathe.
