Driven – Lori Sjpberg

In an instant, he pulled down one of the cups and brushed his thumb across her sensitive nipple. A jolt of heat shot straight to her core, and she instinctively arched against him. Mason growled; his mouth worked magic on her neck while his fingers set her on fire. She whimpered, her head falling back against the wall as his touch turned her brain into mush. His arm tightened around her, pulling her lower body against him, and the feel of his erection pressed against her belly made it obvious what he wanted.
And at that moment, she wanted it too, wanted to feel his cock pounding deep inside her, driving them both to oblivion. But in a flash, her pleasure turned into panic at the sound of a car pulling into the parking lot. It was enough to snap her back to her senses, reminding her why this was wrong. Why they were wrong. How could she possibly think about giving herself to a man who wanted to bulldoze her family’s farm?
“No. Stop!” Eyes heavy-lidded, he pulled his head back and shot her a confused look. “What’s wrong?” She didn’t answer. Mortified by her actions, she shoved him away and tugged her clothes back into place. Unable to meet his gaze, she rushed out of the tack room and into the stable.
Mason’s footsteps thudded close behind. “Wait. Talk to me, Kayla. What’s wrong?” Quickly, she scanned the area to make sure they were completely alone. Once she was certain they had privacy, she whirled around to face him. “I can’t do this.” The confusion on his face gave way to irritation. “You can’t, or you won’t?” “Does it matter?” “It does to me.” She blew out a frustrated breath. A few heartbeats passed while she stared up at him, desperately trying to untangle the knot of conflicting emotions inside her. When she finally forced the words from her mouth, her voice sounded small and unsure to her own ears.
“How can I know you’re not just doing this as some kind of end game for winning the bet?” His frown tightened to a scowl. “Oh, for fuck’s sake, is that what you think this is? Some kind of diversionary tactic?” She squared her shoulders, even though uncertainty gnawed at her insides. “Is it?” “Of course not.”
In two long strides, he closed the distance between them, moving deep within her personal space.

Normally, he wouldn’t dare take his car on a street in such terrible condition, but it was the only way to reach the Whispering Oaks Equestrian Farm. His attorneys had been trying to get in touch with the owner for weeks, and he’d finally decided to take matters into his own hands and contact the woman himself. Open fields banked each side of the tree-lined road, with one side sectioned off into what he assumed were paddocks for horses.
The Phillips family had owned the property for close to a century, one of the last farms of its kind in the area. All of the other landowners sold out long ago, accepting generous cash payoffs in exchange for the deeds to their properties.
