“I—wow—I’m speechless. I…didn’t, uh—” “Know that I was gay?” I finished for him. “I—well—yeah,” he stuttered. “Nobody knows. Not even Bryson,” I said. “Wow. You haven’t even told your best friend?” Derrick asked in utter shock. “C’mon now, bruh. You know how Bryson is.” “True…but…damn…” Derrick was at a loss for words. “So I’m the only one who knows?” “Yup,” I said, fucking with him just to get inside his head.

I wanted him to feel like he could trust me so that he eventually let his guard down. If he felt like we had something in common— something that was as intimate as our sexuality—he would feel like he could place his confidence in me. And that’s when I would pounce. “Damn…I would’ve never guessed,” he said. “The girls go gaga whenever they see you, man. I always thought you were hetero.” “You thought wrong,” I lied. “Not even close.”

“Now I know why you never entertained any of the girls at our school,” he pointed out. I shrugged. “Not my speed.” Derrick smiled shyly. “I feel ya, bro. Not mine either…clearly,” he said. “Mind if I take a seat?” he asked, pointing to the empty chair beside me. I deliberately pulled it closer to me.

“Of course,” I said with a flir- ty grin. Derrick sat down beside me, looking more nervous than a long- tailed cat in a room full of rocking chairs. If he knew what I had planned for him, he would’ve run as fast and as far as he could. “So, uh, do you go to any of the other bars in O-Town?”

Derrick asked, making small talk. I assumed he was talking about gay bars. “No, not really,” I said. “I’m kinda new on the scene, if you know what I mean.” Derrick quickly put two and two together, assuming that I was freshly out of the closet.

“Gotcha,” he said. “There’s actually a spot ‘bout ten minutes from here, called Inches.” “Oh really…” “Inches is the name of the club, but it’s also how you order how much alcohol you want in your drink,” he explained. “We’ll have to slide through sometime,” I told him. Derrick looked elated. “Yeah. Definitely!” I looked around the bar to make sure none of the patrons were watching us or eavesdropping. “You know…I’m not really that big on nightlife,” I said.

“How ‘bout we go somewhere private. I wanna vibe and just enjoy each other’s company.” Derrick happily agreed. “That sounds like a plan! Where’d you have in mind?” he asked. “There’s a bed and breakfast on Heritage Road,” I told him. “If you’re down, we could get a room and…see where things go…” Derrick licked his lips.

WE’RE 5000 MEMBERS STRONG AND GROWING! OceanofPDF.com ABOUT THE AUTHOR Jade Jones discovered her passion for creative writing in elementary school. Born in 1989, she began writing short stories and poetry as an outlet. Later on, as a teen, she led a trou- bled life which later resulted in her becoming a ward of the court. Jade fell in love with the art and used storytelling as a means of venting during her tumultuous times.

Aging out of the system two years later, she was thrust into the dismal world of homeless- ness. Desperate, and with limited income, Jade began dancing full time at the tender age of eighteen. It wasn’t until Fall of 2008 when she finally caught her break after being accepted into Cleveland State University. There, Jade lived on campus and majored in Film and Television.

Now, six years later, she flourishes from her childhood dream of becoming a bestselling author. Since then she has written the best-selling “Cameron” series. She also writes women’s fiction under the pen name Pebbles Starr. Quite suitably, she uses her life’s experiences to create captivating characters and story lines.

Jade currently resides in Atlanta, Georgia. With no children, she spends her leisure shop- ping and traveling. She says that seeing new faces, meeting new people, and experiencing diverse cultures fuels her creativity. The stories are generated in her heart, the craft is prac- ticed in her mind, and she expresses her passion through ink.
