He turned back to them. “I’m sorry. I wanted to show you where I was when the avalanche happened but my secretary, Evergreen, keeps my appointment book. I assume you want some sort of alibi for me the day of the avalanche now that there’s been a death.” “Forgive me for being blunt, Mr. Kansa,” Kane said. “I’m more interested in what you meant when you said that the Mother got revenge on those trying to exploit the Earth. Did you mean Audrey? Because you said you weren’t aware that Audrey Knowles died on the mountain.”

Kansa’s red-rimmed eyes widened as he shook his head. “No! I meant that the Mother got revenge on Sunvail Vacations. We’ve been trying to get them to stop polluting the mountain for years. Punchbowl used to be an untouched wilderness until Sunvail came along and clear cut all the trees to make a recreation area for idiots who have no concept of what it is to lose a precious living organism like a tree. Trees give us everything. They remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and give us oxygen and life itself.

Trees are gifts to us from the Mother and what they did by killing them might as well be considered murder.” He closed his mouth and then thought of something. “How did Audrey die? You said she was caught in the avalanche?” “Yes. It doesn’t look like she was a victim of foul play but she had so many broken bones and such a bad head injury, it’s hard to say whether she was bludgeoned and left on the mountain only to be caught up in the avalanche, or whether she accidentally died while up there doing her regular park ranger work,” Dev said.

“In any case, she’s dead and we’re looking for answers.” “I don’t understand. Why are you here asking me questions then?” Kansa asked.

Thayne Wolfe and Jarrett Evans are a happily married gay couple living their American dream. Their new house, two rambunctious ferrets, and a job they love, make them feel complete. As they walk into work at the ATF the week before Christmas, they’re greeted by friends from the FBI. The idea of a joint case sounds good but when they learn the whole group is being sent out of town, Thayne and Jarrett’s Christmas plans with family is put on ice.

There’s been a suspicious avalanche on Mount Shasta, an extinct volcano in northern California. When Jarrett learns that one of two people with any expertise in ATF explosive avalanche training happens to be none other than his husband, he hopes they’re in for a week of frigid fun. Tapped for the job as avalanche expert based on training he received over ten years before, Thayne isn’t so thrilled. When he learns that his cheating ex-boyfriend will be joining their team, he predicts nothing but trouble.

Jarrett isn’t looking forward to making a case for a bomber when they can’t even find evidence of a bomb. There are a few things that bother him… a dead park ranger, Thayne’s handsy ex, and couple of runaway reindeers. He’s prepared though… Jarrett’s always prepared. Armed with snow gear, guns, and lederhosen, the pair are about to face a case as illusive and blinding as a snowstorm.
