For The Love Of Mr Darcy – Florence Prescott

work at The British Museum? I do not understand. What do you do there? Clean?” She may have been lost and utterly confused and have a splitting headache, but Elizabeth Bennet did not take kindly to people underestimating her skills or intelligence. “I beg your pardon, sir! I am a highly trained member of the Civil Service in the employ of The British Museum in the cataloguing department.
And I would prefer if you didn’t degrade…” She was going to continue berating the man until she glanced down and saw the way he was dressed. It appeared as if Mr. Darcy was dressed for a regency themed costume party. Then Elizabeth peeked around him and saw everyone else was dressed much like him, even herself. What is going on?
“Mr. Darcy… what year is this?” The gentleman laughed again but this time it was in surprise. “The year? It is 1813, miss. I think it might be best to summon the doctor.” Since she was confident she was going to pass out again, Elizabeth thought a doctor might be a good idea, after all.
OceanofPDF.com erhaps it was the heat that caused your fainting spell, miss. Or did you simply have too much punch?” a tall man with a mustache asked Elizabeth in a condescending tone. She frowned at him and his cravat, which was almost bigger than his head. “It was neither, sir,” she answered firmly. “It was the surprise of well… oh, applesauce! No one is going to believe me anyway.
What’s the point?” Everyone at the garden who had gathered around her to watch the commotion was staring at Elizabeth like she was an alien. She didn’t blame them; she knew the feeling as she stared right back at them.

Most days, Jane would be by her side, and they would talk and laugh or sing as they cared for their posies. But today, Mrs. Bennet had insisted that Jane accompany her into town, which meant Elizabeth was left to do the work of two Bennet sisters. She did not mind, however, as she often enjoyed being left to her thoughts. And as of late, her thoughts were of the assembly in Meryton and the egregious behavior of one Mr. Fitzwilliam Darcy.
The town had been occupied with rumors and innuendos about the mysterious friend of Charles Bingley, the new owner of Netherfield. But when Darcy made himself known at the assembly, it was as a rude, unpleasant, elitist who thought the country below him. He even insulted Elizabeth most cruelly and that she could not abide. She knew her sister Jane was anxious to know Charles Bingley better, but if such an acquaintance meant Elizabeth would be forced to spend more time in the company of Mr. Darcy, she could only hope Mrs. Bennet would act as a chaperone to her sister instead.
The was high in the sky, which meant it was almost time for tea, but Elizabeth still needed to plant some seeds and finish pruning the rose bushes, and she disliked leaving her chores unfinished. She could have asked Kitty or Mary or Lydia to assist her, but the work would take less time if she did it alone.
