For You Always – Hannah Jordan

She shook her head. “No need. I already have a casserole in the oven. I tried to make it low carb by substituting the potatoes with cauliflower.” My chest warmed. I told myself to get a grip. She’d swapped vegetables for me, not offered herself for dinner. “Sounds great.” “I thought maybe you could teach me how I can help you,” she said, running her bare foot across the carpet.
“I read some things online, but I’d really like you to show me where you keep your medicine and how to use your monitoring app.” She looked as nervous as I felt. And sexy as hell. Her toes were painted a bright red and the amount of toned leg she showed in those shorts made me want to pick her up and wrap them around my waist “Sure,” I said.
“I just have to handle the groceries. Want to play for me while I get everything put away?” Her eyes widened. “Oh, no. That’s OK.” “I’d love to hear you play.” She shook her head. “I don’t like performing.” “I don’t like talking about my diabetes,” I said and smiled to lighten the comeback.
“OK, one song,” she said, blushing. She settled on the couch with her guitar as I moved all the bags to the kitchen counter. I started unpacking the first bag as she strummed a few notes. Once her voice filled the room, my hand stilled, and I stood like a statue, listening. Her voice was lower than I’d expected given her speaking pitch, sultry with a slight grit that made every note a punch to my stomach. I didn’t recognize the music, though it sounded like something country.
When she finished the song, I turned and clapped. “That was so good, I forgot to put away the groceries.” She smiled and looked down at her hands, strumming a few chords. “Did you write that?” She looked up at me and burst out laughing. “That was Patsy Cline.”
I shrugged. “Oh my word. You’ve never heard of Patsy Cline? She’s from Virginia.” “Huh, I’ve never heard of her performing.” Cammie’s eyes widened in horror. “Wyatt, she’s been dead since the early ’60s. Didn’t they teach you about her in your state history class?” “They focused on the founding fathers and the Civil War.” Cammie shook her head and kept strumming. “That one was called You’re Stronger Than Me. It’s not as popular as some of her others.
You’ve probably heard this one.” I watched as she closed her eyes and began to sing. I still didn’t recognize the song, but I felt every word of the lyrics. I was certifiably crazy for this woman and as she sang, it was getting harder and harder not to walk across the room, take her face in my hands, and kiss her senseless, like Wade suggested. “That one was even better,” I said when she finished.
Her mouth dropped open.

First, he sounded young and flirty on the phone. Second, he’d injured his back in a parkour accident. Any person willing to jump between rooftops and do flips out of trees was bound to take the simple risk of asking out anyone he wanted. I did my best to look unapproachable, yet even with my resting bitch face, no makeup, and my hair in a messy bun, the guy’s eyes lit up the moment he entered the physical therapy office.
“Well, hello there,” he said, walking straight to my desk, which, granted, was what most patients did.
