Heat UK – Issue 1393 27 June 2026 – Heat UK

In 1997, the Spice Girls signed a multimillion- dollar deal with Pepsi. ‘That was very clever,’ says Nicki. ‘Sometimes, you can’t always get out to specific countries to perform for your fans. But having these massive brand deals with major marketing campaigns around the world, it meant the Spice Girls could be everywhere.’ Then, in December that year, the movie Spice World was released, taking the band stratospheric. ‘If you look at performers over the years, like the Beatles or Elvis, the next step was always a movie,’ says Nicki.
‘Again, before the days of Zoom and social media, it made them accessible to the rest of the world. And it was a very British movie, what with the double decker bus and all the cameos. That movie made them global.’ But it’s perhaps no surprise that, with five larger-than-life personalities working non-stop, something had to give.
And that terrible day came on 31 May 1998, when we cried inconsolably and begged our mum to let us stay home from school. The day that Geri left. ‘None of us can really understand the pressure cooker environment that they were living in,’ says Nicki – who, by then, had left the Spice Girls freight train after they’d sacked Simon Fuller six months prior. ‘Only those five girls truly know what it was like to live that life. And things break. If you’ve got a best friend who you’re with 24/7, there are certain things that drive you insane.
I think Geri had always felt like the girls needed her to be the leader – and then suddenly, they didn’t need her anymore. I think she felt lost.’ The story since then is well-told. The remaining four continued for a short while, before disbanding and each going their separate ways.

And last week, she did it again – making her Royal Ascot comeback after three years in Roksanda’s marigold yellow Brigitte dress, which she has already worn twice in recent years.
Kate, 44, first debuted the number – which cost just under £1,400 – in Jamaica for the royal Caribbean tour in March 2022 before re-wearing it four months later at the Wimbledon women’s singles finals. If reusing outfits has Kate’s royal seal of approval, we’ll gladly follow suit! Once, twice, three times a lady… Kate Middleton… for being a real person and wearing stuff more than once! EXPLODES AFTER HARPER ‘STUNT’ BACKFIR 4 27 JUNE-3 JULY 2026 A s David Beckham unveiled his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on 12 June, he was joined at the prestigious ceremony by his proud family, including teenage daughter Harper. But that wasn’t the only engagement the 14-year-old had arranged that day. Leaving Hollywood Boulevard in the same pink gown, Harper travelled 20 minutes down the road to the Beverly Hills mansion her estranged brother Brooklyn shares with his wife Nicola Peltz.
The couple weren’t at home, they were in New York – something Brooklyn confirmed when he posted a snap from his run in Central Park.
