Years ago, while ministering in Colorado, I met a woman named Deidre. At the time, neither of us realized how much we needed one another and the friendship the Lord would develop. Deidre had survived a tragic encounter with a drunk driver—a moment that shifted the trajectory of her life and left her body weakened and in need of healing. My husband Ron and I had the honor of ministering to her, and Ron was the one who spoke the Father’s love over her in a way that revived and awakened her soul.
Then, in a moment marked by the Holy Spirit, Deidre reached out, took a piece of rainbow worship cloth from my hands —something I had worshiped with for years—and began to dance. It was the first time her fragile body had moved like that since the accident. That moment sparked not only healing, but the beginning of a sacred friendship.
A while later, a package arrived in the mail: Deidre had sent me back a new piece of material. It was just a radiant red and gold cloth. She wasn’t sure who it was for, but I knew instantly—God was honoring the material I allowed her to keep and upgrading me in return. That cloth travels the world with me and comes into my secret place moments with the Lord. It is a treasure. Deidre, an introvert with a quiet yet prophetic spirit, began sending me handwritten poetry—words birthed from her time in God’s presence.
These mailings became a balm for my soul, especially after long ministry trips. Often, just as I returned, there it was: a writing waiting in the mailbox, refreshing me after pouring out. Deidre, who once quietly mailed encouragement to those in need, made me one of her missions. What began as occasional notes turned into regular phone calls. Despite being over two decades apart in age and living thousands of miles away, we became the dearest of friends—Deidre often calls us the “introvert and the paper shuffler” (because, a lot of paperwork is involved in ministry, not just preaching and teaching).
