A protective barrier to hide the images away for safekeeping. When it was finally covered in a solid wall of black, dark enough to match her soul, she moved on to the next one. It took over two hours to painstakingly cover them all. When she was finished, she dropped her brush on top of the last one and walked out of the room for the last time.

She went to the suite she now shared with a monster and curled up in a chair on the balcony to listen to her father’s words as they replayed in a loop over and over in her head. It had been strange, but comforting when he’d called her Chloe Bell. Only Brock had ever called her that. Now it was a stark reminder of all she’d lost.

Cillian checked the app and saw that Chloe was in her studio. Good. At least she was off that fucking rock. He’d give her space, but only so much. Satisfied, he went back to reviewing the accounts for his various enterprises. But something about the earlier scene with her parents tugged at the back of his mind. Some piece of information he was overlooking. Something that shouldn’t be there. The attack had been recorded. He was in the habit of recording everything, and he’d already watched it once.

Frustrated that it was taking his focus away from his work, he watched the video again, trying to figure out what he was missing. He paused the screen on David Guidry’s face. There was something familiar, something important about his face. Was it because he recognized small traces of Chloe around her father’s eyes? He stared at the image for long moments, trying to figure out what was bothering him about David.

When nothing came to him, he decided it had to be the traces of Chloe he recognized. He switched the screen to his coding program and immersed himself in writing the final code for his latest weapon. He created and sold his weapons to various countries all over the world, including the US. He had an unspoken understanding with them all.
