Ishq Rewind – Pampy Roy

His words painted a picture so warm, it hurt. I could almost see it—the kind of life I’d once imagined for myself. A loving husband, two children, mornings that began with sleepy smiles and hurried breakfasts, school drop- offs, and evenings spent in the soft chaos of home. A small, imperfect, but happy family. But that dream… that version of my life… had vanished the day Vishal betrayed me.
Now, I felt like a ghost drifting through my own story—functioning, smiling when required, but hollow somewhere deep inside. The tears had dried long ago; the ache had simply turned into silence. I’d convinced myself that if I stopped dreaming, I’d stop hurting. “Shreya,” Mr. Sinha’s voice cut through my thoughts, warm but firm. “Time to head for dinner.” I blinked, grounding myself back to the present. “Yes, sir,” I murmured with a small nod.
As I turned, I caught Dhruv looking at me. His usual mischievous grin was gone; instead, his expression was thoughtful, searching—as if he could somehow read the jumble of emotions I was trying to hide. For a moment, my heart skipped. His gaze lingered, steady and unsettling, until I straightened my posture and forced a mock frown. I tilted my head toward the exit, pretending to be annoyed.
“Come on, superstar. Dinner’s waiting,” I said, trying to sound casual. He smiled again—but this time, it wasn’t his trademark smirk. It was softer, almost gentle. Something in that look made my stomach flutter uncomfortably. I didn’t want him, or anyone, to see the cracks beneath my calm. Get your head straight, Shreya, I scolded myself silently, shaking off the moment. Then, with one last steadying breath, I walked toward the next venue—JW Marriott—telling myself that some walls are better left standing.
___ The dinner was set on the rooftop of the JW Marriott, glittering under a canopy of stars. The place exuded quiet luxury—soft golden lights, the clink of glasses, and mellow music humming gently through the speakers. It should’ve felt perfect, but I found myself standing alone near the edge, my gaze fixed on the night sky instead of the crowd.
I’d been doing my best to stay away—from the polite chatter, the corporate pleasantries, and most of all, from Dhruv. Because earlier that day, during the investor presentation, I’d caught him watching me.
