I played along since I wanted to tease her too. Then, I joked about wanting a kiss from her, and then I’d agree to go home with her. I knew that she wouldn’t comply since that wasn’t part of our deal, but she surprised me when she did. For a moment, I became rigid. I couldn’t move, wondering if this was a dream or if the Lambanóg had finally taken its effect on me.

Either way, I welcomed my good fortune and accepted the fact that I got what I wanted. I should be ashamed for not regretting that I led her to believe that I am wasted when I am completely sober. This morning, I was fully prepared to apologize for the way I took advantage of her last night. But upon seeing her face and the way she blushed profusely when our eyes met.

I realized that I was not sorry at all. “I give up,” Mari’s aunt said, putting down the papers in her hands. “It seems that your mind is not here today. Maybe we should call it a day, and let’s continue with your lesson tomorrow.” I decided that maybe it was the best thing to do at the moment since my mind was completely occupied by her lovely niece. I stood from my chair and went to the balcony to clear my dirty thoughts. I wondered what she was doing right now.

Ah, there she was outside. I was about to admire her more from the balcony on the second floor when my attention was caught by the two SUVs that were parked in the driveway. A man who looked like a bodyguard came out of the shotgun seat on the first SUV and opened the passenger’s door.

Mama!” The ten-year-old me begged my mother not to leave while crying helplessly. She had her luggage with her, and she was also crying while clutching my hand desperately.

I didn’t understand why my mama suddenly packed her clothes, but I had a feeling that I wouldn’t see her again after tonight. “Marikit, listen to me.” Mama knelt in front of me until we were at eye level. “I want to take you with me, but…” She gave a speaking glance to the housekeepers and bodyguards around the house. They were loyal to Papa. “Don’t leave me alone here. Please, take me with you,” I pleaded desperately, refusing to let go of her hand.

“Mari, my baby…” she sobbed. Just when she was about to take me with her. My nursemaid pulled me back. “No! Let me go! Mama!” “You can leave this house,” Papa said from the second floor of our home, watching the commotion with disdain. “But my daughter will stay with me. Take her out of here.” “No!” I shouted at the top of my lungs when Papa’s bodyguards started to drag Mama out of the living room and into the waiting car.

“Mama!” “Take Mari inside her room,” Papa commanded. My nursemaid forcibly dragged me further inside the mansion, and my last sight of my mama was her at the back of the car, crying. Little did I know that was the last time I would ever see my mama again…

I woke up gasping for air. That dream again.
