I never thought that he felt that way. I thought that he was like that because he felt protective of me since I was his ‘best friend.’ It never occurred to me that he felt jealous. I sighed deeply while rubbing my forehead warily. “I guess, despite being best of friends for years, we still have a huge miscommunication.”

The corner of his lips quirked with a smile. “Not really,” he quipped, eyeing me with a devilish glint in his eyes. “I am just good at hiding. I was afraid to say anything about my feelings in the past; that’s why I kept it to myself.” My eyes narrowed in his direction. “Then what changed your mind? Why are you telling me this now?” He kneeled on the floor near the bed and held my hands.

“Because I realize that it would be scarier to lose you over my cowardice, I am willing to gamble everything I have just to have you, Autumn.” My heart suddenly felt warm while looking at him kneeling in front of me. There was unmistakable sincerity in his blue eyes. I reached out to caress his face. He was like a cat; he leaned his face even more to my palm as if enjoying the warmth of my skin on his face.

He shut his eyes while enjoying this moment. Seriously, I wasn’t yet getting used to his childlike behavior lately. It was very different from his typical playboy behavior. “I wish we could stay like this forever and that you were mine.” I didn’t speak. I refused to give him false hope. We might not even be sure what the future holds for us. Instead, I smiled at him. “Hey, we don’t need to talk about that now. Why not enjoy the night?

It’s almost Christmas, after all.” He finally opened his eyes and smiled back at me. “That’s right. Where were we earlier before we got sidetracked? Ah, I remember…” The change in him was instant; his eyes held a devilish glint. I watched the way he slowly leaned toward me until his forehead rested against mine. “I want to sleep with you. Will you let me?” I never thought I would hear such blatant words.

1kitap1.com/en PROLOGUE AUTUMN He pushed me into the wall of his apartment and kissed me senselessly. I tried to push him away, but he was too strong, especially now that he was intoxicated. This is wrong… I was trying to push him away and make some sense of his already wasted self, but he was too strong, especially now that he was drunk. Somehow, I managed to push him away with all the strength that I could muster and broke the kiss.

“Stop this. This is a mistake.” He looked at me. His clear blue eyes were glinting devilishly under the soft lights inside the living room of his apartment. “A mistake? I don’t think so. Admit it, you want me as much as I want you.” Kelan Creed. He was my best friend for as long as I can remember.

We were inseparable in high school, and now that we were in college, we were taking the same courses and did things together in terms of studies. Many had been raising eyebrows with our platonic relationship, but we didn’t pay them any mind since we were happy with our current status.

Ever since I was wary of men and their intentions toward me, but with Kelan, I knew that I was safe and he would not take advantage of me until tonight. Well, technically, he might take advantage of me tonight. Maybe he didn’t even know who I was.

Maybe he thought that I was one of the long list of girls who lined up for his attention. We had just gotten back from the house party our friends organized. It was your typical college party with lots of booze and making-out sessions from the people who wanted some action for the night. I had to take him home since he was already so drunk that he was now starting to attract attention from the other guests, and I feared that he might start causing trouble, which would lead him to trouble with the university.

“Come on,” I said, gently pushing him away completely, but he didn’t budge from his place. “Take a shower and sleep. I need to go back to my dorm.” Instead of moving away, he rested his head on the crook of my neck. “Autumn…” My heart skipped a beat. I have to remember that he was just drunk and didn’t know what he was talking about.

“Snap out of it, Kelan.
