For vodka, while it’s characterized by being colorless, flavorless, and odorless, aiming for maximum purity, theoretically it should cause the least hangover. Ho wever, as a pure distilled spirit without additives and lacking the aging process w here some alcohol converts to acetaldehyde, I’ve found it causes stronger hang overs than whiskey varieties. For commercial soju, being diluted leads to many impure alcohol scents, resul ting in the use of many synthetic additives and consequently quite significant ha ngovers.

For beer, hangover severity varies by type but is generally quite significant. Peo ple often drink it mixed with soju or during extended drinking sessions due to its f illing nature. While beer itself causes hangovers, its perception as a light drink oft en leads to overconsumption and subsequent hangovers. For wine, as a fermented beverage, hangovers are known to be caused by co mponents like sulfur dioxide, tannins, and methanol (fruit wines tend to have hig her methanol content due to the natural breakdown of fruit pectin).

However, rec ent research suggests that quercetin, an antioxidant in wine, may cause its char acteristic hangover by interfering with alcohol metabolism.120) Personally, I part icularly notice hangovers from wine compared to equivalent amounts of other al cohols. For makgeolli, as a fermented drink, it naturally causes some level of hangove r similar to beer. Despite this, I’ve classified it as causing the worst hangovers be cause typical makgeolli usually contains aspartame. The quantity is significant – about 73mg per bottle, which is 1.7 times more than zero-calorie drinks containi ng aspartame.

As mentioned in the ‘Are Sweeteners Bad?’ chapter, I consider as partame the worst sweetener, yet most commercial low-cost makgeolli contain s it. About 10% of aspartame metabolizes into methanol, which can cause hang overs as a toxic substance.121) Therefore, when drinking makgeolli, it’s advisabl e to carefully check the ingredients list for aspartame. The simpler the alcohol’s i ngredients, for instance just water, rice, and nuruk (contains wheat), the more like ly it’s a top-tier premium product.

This book is the result of 10 years of research, experience, and trial and error, follo wed by a two-year writing process on health and aging. I am someone who once follo wed doctors’ recommendations and common sense, avoiding saturated fats and strictl y maintaining a low-sodium diet for five years. However, at some point, I began to ha ve serious doubts when my health indicators actually worsened and I lost vitality in m y life, which led me to begin serious research.

When I started implementing the pr actices described in this book, including daily habits and dietary changes, all me asurable health indicators improved – weight, body fat, blood pressure, glycated hemoglobin, liver function, triglycerides, cholesterol, kidney function, and mor e. Not to mention the improvements that are harder to quantify, such as physical appearance, skin condition, overall vitality, immunity, general mood, athletic ab ility, and physical strength.

True health radiates from your face. It’s not about makeup or temporary fixes, but rather a glow that comes from within. Most people encountering this book f or the first time might find its contents unconventional, perhaps even shocking o r questionable, as they differ from common knowledge. However, I ask you to ex amine the evidence provided. I have personally read and reviewed each researc h paper, deliberately excluding low-quality observational studies that lack proper control variables. To ensure thorough verification and high reliability, I considered factors such as sample sizes and journal impact factors (IF), primarily focusing on well-designed double-blind experiments, cohort studies, and meta-analyse s.

When necessary, I also compared and analyzed official statistical data. Any un verified or impractical content has been eliminated. You can’t harvest red beans where you’ve planted soybeans. We shouldn’t foll ow the same methods as others while seeking different results. This book empl oys every possible means and method to achieve its goals. However, it absolutel y does not advocate for an austere lifestyle like that of a monk.

Instead, it present s efficient ways to maintain health while maximizing life’s pleasures. I write with consistency and conscience, never recommending to others what I don’t practi ce myself. The reason I write so extensively is that I wrote this book with a sense of mission, and though my expression may be somewhat rough and unpolishe d, it comes from my heart.
