He asks as the music slows and we adjust our paces. “It’s a shit story. I hired someone to help me with my public image. He suggested dancin’ would help me blend in with the business crowd.” Because I was a backwoods boy with no social skills and a tendency to drop my “ings” he also suggested speech lessons. Which I took even though I died a little inside. “Well, I don’t think anyone should just blend in. Ever.” I’m starting to learn that.

Better late than never, I suppose. “What about you? How does a master carver and furniture builder know how to waltz?” River’s lips tilt as he leads us into a fast twirl. I snort out a laugh at how easy he did that and how fucking good it feels to let loose and just be me with him. “My best friend wanted to learn and didn’t want to go by herself, so I went with her. Turns out she’s not very good at it, but I am.”

He winks and presses his cheek into mine, his lips ghosting over my ear. “I can also tango very well should you ever want to do that with me.” Our lower bodies press together as he moves me at his will through the crowd of other dancers. Although I’m only vaguely aware of other people around. I’m caught in the spell of River and I’d do just about anything to stay here. “Tango is the dance of love, is it not?” I smile against his ear when he misses a step but recovers.

“It is. But it’s also trust. Trusting your partner to not let go, to catch you when needed.” The music ends, and the DJ is announcing a short break to switch to modern music, as he calls it. But River doesn’t let go right away.

But sometimes there’s a bit of shadow skirting before we find the light. This book mentions a topic that may be sensitive to some. River will often mention how he cared for his mother when she was sick and later died.

Blaze also shares how his mother died. There is no in depth on page description of these deaths, only memories. If the mention of caring for aging parents or the passing of a parent is a tender topic, please know it’s mentioned in this book. Before You Begin 1kitap1.com/en 1kitap1.com/en guess this is it, huh?” Heather’s broken voice and trembling chin cause my eyes to water with unshed tears. “Yeah.” My voice cracks as I open my arms for her.

“I’m going to miss you.” She whispers against my chest. “We’ll keep in touch. You’re one of my best friends, Heather. I won’t be out of your life for good. Just day to day. Think of how much you’ll get done without me pesterin’ you every three minutes.” She laughs softly and eases out of my arms. Wiping at her tears, she nods. “Maybe I’ll get to go to the bathroom without you demanding something the minute I leave.”

Heather forces a smile and I know she’ll have a rough time adjusting, but she has a family to cushion the change. She’s been my assistant since the first day I dared to chase a dream.
