Captive In His Empire – Kathy Asher

Leo. I slide out of bed, checking the screen. A photo. Theo Jameson. Standing near a private jet at a remote airstrip, flanked by Calabrese guards. He’s loading something . . . someone . . . into a black SUV. No context. No explanation. But I know what this means.
They’re moving. Planning something. It’s coming. Soon. I curse under my breath. There’s never enough time. I lean down, brush a kiss against Alicia’s temple. She shifts again, but doesn’t wake. My lips linger there longer than they should. It’s not for her. It’s for me. A silent promise I hope I can keep. I get dressed with practiced efficiency. Shirt. Gun. Knife tucked into the inside of my boot. One more look at her before I leave the room. She sighs in her sleep.
Innocent in a way that no longer suits this world. In the hallway, I call Matvey. “Double perimeter security. Now. No questions.” “Yes, sir.” Then I text Leo: Track Theo. I want hourly reports. Nothing slips. I glance back at the bedroom door. Still ajar. Still silent. What if she knew everything? The files I kept.
The surveillance. The truths I’ve buried like corpses. The codes her parents died protecting . . . and that I might need to survive this war. Would she hate me? Would she walk? Or something worse would happen? I whisper into the quiet, almost afraid of the sound of my own voice. “I can’t lose her.” Not again. I’ll betray every oath I ever swore before letting that happen. 1kitap1.com/en Chapter Thirteen Chapter Thirteen Alicia Passion’s Edge he rich smell of coffee and something savory rouses me from my sleep.
Garlic, maybe. Butter. Herbs. Something else, warm and undeniably . . . human. I move, sleep-fogged, tangled in sheets that do not belong to me. My cheek against cold linen that reeks of him. Masculine. Spiced. Menacing. My heart stumbles. I bolt upright. This isn’t my room. The sheets. The space. The faint hum of classical music beneath the kitchen sounds.
I’m in Viktor’s bed. My legs are bare beneath the blanket. My nightdress is knotted at my waist. Warmth creeps along the base of my spine as the memory from last night sweeps back into my mind—the fire I’d experienced, mouthing his name in sleep like a spell I couldn’t let go. I push the sheets away, encasing myself in silk with shaking hands. I step onto the floor, tiptoeing to the bedroom door, my heart thudding against my ribs like a warning.
He is in the kitchen. Shirtless. Calm. Moving around the kitchen like this is just . . . normal. He doesn’t notice me right away. The muscles in his back shift as he moves from the stovetop to the counter. There’s a long scar slashing across his ribcage, fading into the groove of his waist. It’s angry, jagged. And it’s one of many.

Now he’s dragged me back into his world—dark, violent, and intoxicating.
He says I’m not his prisoner. But the locked doors, the cameras, the way he looks at me like I already belong to him? This isn’t protection. It’s possession. And God help me… I don’t want to escape. Viktor She was never supposed to be mine. Too young. Too innocent. Too off-limits.
But I watched. I waited. And when the world came for her, I took her. Now she sleeps in my bed and screams my name, but she still doesn’t trust me. She thinks I’m her captor. She’s wrong. I’m her obsession. And I’ll burn the world down before I let her go. 1kitap1.com/en Chapter One I Chapter One Alicia A Breathing Nightmare hate polyester.
There’s something deeply unnatural about a piece of clothing that clings like an ex-boyfriend—desperate, wrinkled, and immune to boundaries. And yet here I am, stuffing myself into my mustard-yellow waitress uniform like a sausage into its final casing, praying the back zipper doesn’t give out and expose my “diplomatic immunity” to the 2:00 a.m.
hash brown crowd. The breakroom at Joe’s Diner smells like industrial-grade coffee and discount air freshener, both strong enough to keep my senses sharp and my heavy eyelids open, so I’m not complaining. “You look like hell,” Rachel offers brightly, chewing gum loudly.
