Your father is ill, and we need to leave.” “If he is ill, he can see a physician here in Splintered Vale,” Kyle insists.

“He is too proud to accept the services, Your Majesty,” he says. In a quick movement, the man reaches for Cora, but Kyle pulls her out of the way as Charnell swings his sword. The man dodges the first strike and counterattacks, almost striking Charnell, who falls back into a merchant’s table. Kyle doesn’t hang around long and drags Cora with him into an alleyway out of sight. “Are you going to disclose what you know?”

Kyle snaps. “What about you, King Ainsworth? Are you going to keep lying?” “I said no names, which is not a lie. Besides, I am not king yet,” he snarls as they catch their breath. “You know more than you are letting on, Cora. That can place both of us in danger.” “This conversation is over,” she says as she starts to walk away, but he grabs onto her arm. “I need to find my parents. Let go of me!” “I can’t do that. You are in danger, and I can’t allow you out of my sight.”

“I will not ask you again,” she says as the color of her eyes turns onyx, and her skin temperature heats up.” “Enough!” Nelia yells, entering the alleyway. “Sorceress, please accept my apologies,” Kyle says as he steps away from Cora. “I meant no disrespect.” “Nelia, you can’t be here,” Charnell interrupts as the watchmen sound the trumpets.

“Kyle, I need you to take Cora and leave the castle through the hidden passage. You know where it is. There should be hidden horses and weapons, as in our training sessions. Whatever happens, do not stop, and I will reconnect with you later.” Nelia interjects, “I can protect her.” “Kyle, go!” “I am not going anywhere without my parents. Where are they?” “We will ensure their safety. Please go with Kyle.”
