Europe By Eurail 2026 – LaVerne Ferguson – Kosinski (1)

Every year on August 15, the Austrian Philharmonic Youth Orchestra performs in Innsbruck to celebrate the King of the Waltz—Johann Strauss —with the “hottest Strauss event in Austria,” according to the 120 participating young musicians. For tickets: Tel: (0512) 5356; www.innsbruck-ticket-service.at; E-mail: office@innsbruck-ticket- service.at. In the winter Innsbruck is an alpine sports paradise, with seven skiing regions, including the magnificent Stubai Glacier, 62 lifts, 55 marked ski runs, 130 kilometers of well-maintained ski trails, and 9.5 kilometers of high-altitude cross-country trails.
Telephone or e-mail the Innsbruck Tourist Office for holiday and ski package information. Day Excursion to Nuremberg (Nürnberg) Beer, Gingerbread, and Toys Depart from Munich Hauptbahnhof or Pasing Distance by Train: 125 miles (201 km) Average Train Time: 1 hour, 15 minutes City Dialing Code: 911 Tourist Information Office: Königstrasse 82, 90402 Nurnberg Tel: (0911) 23 36-0 www.tourismus.nuernberg.de E-mail: [email protected] Hours: 1000–1730 daily Notes: A tourist information pavilion is in front of the main railway station at Königstrasse 82.
Although Nuremberg (Nürnberg) is more than 950 years old, it is a lively, modern city. A mecca for lovers of markets, music, and museums, Nuremberg must have originated the “Day Excursion”! On December 7, 1835, the first German train chugged from Nuremberg to Fürth, a neighboring city, with honored guests and two barrels of beer. But on this day excursion, ICE trains average 76 mph between Munich and Nuremberg—considerably faster than in 1835—and Nuremberg’s brew is every bit the match for Munich’s, for Nuremberg is a part of Bavaria, too.
Get ready for an enjoyable day out. When you arrive in Nuremberg, you will find the tourist office in front of the railway station. Another tourist information office is on the main market square at Hauptmarkt 18, with the same opening hours.
