First Love – Reimagined – Abigail Taylor (1)

I wrapped my arms around her in a reassuring squeeze. “I…” She sniffled, hesitating. “You…” But whatever she wanted to say never came. Instead, her lashes fluttered closed. “Haley?” I whispered. No response. Only the soft rise and fall of her breath as she nestled deeper into my lap. I didn’t dare move, afraid to disturb her. Instead, I sat still, staring at her and silently hoping that when she woke up, this rollercoaster of emotions would finally slow down.
OceanofPDF.com Chapter 16 Haley heard Iris say my name, but my mind was too foggy to respond. All I could do was close my eyes. Her touch was soft, like a gentle caress, sending waves of warmth through me. It felt meditative, as if the world were fading away.
The silence surrounding us felt comforting, like a cocoon I wasn’t ready to leave. “Open up!” A loud voice boomed, disrupting my quiet. I didn’t recognize it. The sudden intrusion made my heart skip, but it didn’t seem real. I was pretty sure it was just Iris and me here. Maybe I was dreaming. I kept my eyes closed, unwilling to face reality, but someone was shaking me.
Like they were trying to pull out of a dream, but I wasn’t ready to leave. “Haley, get up. Someone is here.” Iris’s voice was sweet, like a lullaby. Her tone brought a sense of comfort I wasn’t ready to let go of, keeping me anchored in a world I wasn’t yet prepared to leave. I curled into her, not wanting to move, but a loud knock echoed through the room. A moment later, I was forcefully lifted to a seated position. The sudden motion made my head spin, and I clung to her, unsure of what was happening.
“Haley, look at me.” Iris was holding me steady. I pried my eyes open, barely a crack, to see her face. Her expression was full of concern, but I couldn’t fully focus on her; my vision blurred. “What’s going on?” I mumbled. My head felt heavy, and my mouth was sticky and dry. I smacked my lips, trying to create some moisture. But it felt like sandpaper was scratching at the back of my throat. “Is that Adam?” Iris’s gaze locked on mine, but her words didn’t register fully.
My mind felt like molasses, and my body was drifting. The fog in my head thickened, making everything seem distant like I was underwater. Her arms tightened around me, making sure I didn’t fall. “Is it Adam?”

Growing up in Texas, my parents always told me I needed a Southern gentleman. But when I met Adam, I knew he was more than that. He was handsome and protective—the typical knight in shining armor who would fight anyone who tried to hurt me. I felt secure with him and couldn’t imagine my life getting any better. This was why I spent most of my time with him, even on girls’ nights. “Hey, hon, are you ready?” I called out to Adam as I finished dressing in my bedroom.
The lamp on my nightstand cast a warm glow across the room, outlining my reflection in the full-length mirror. I adjusted my shirt and smoothed my skirt before reaching for my earrings. “Ready for what?” he asked, leaning against the doorjamb, a lazy grin on his face as he watched me intently. “We’re supposed to meet Shannon and Toni tonight, silly.
