From Valhalla – N Von Wolf

Owner, he said. Despite his relentless confirmations that the House of Ragnulf held no slaves, and that she was free. ‘Of course, my lord,’ she said softly, inclining her head just enough to seem submissive. ‘But even a servant must make sure of the master’s will. Clarity ensures perfection, does it not?’ A reminder that her obedience came with its own conditions. ‘What would you have me do to him, my lord?’
she asked, this time the question aimed at Erik, her voice softer now, carefully levelled. Their eyes met, and for a fleeting moment, it was as though the façade fell away. They were not master and servant, not lovers, not allies – they were opponents locked in a game of wits, each move more calculated than the last. ‘I want you to make them feel profound desire for each other,’ Erik said, his tone grave as his eyes scanned her face for any trace of emotion.
Her chest tightened – a flood of heat, jealousy and shame merging violently – but she concealed it out of instinct. The suggestion struck a nerve, an intimate violation she had never dreamed of inflicting upon anyone. It wasn’t just cruel – it was dehumanizing, reducing them to pawns in this twisted form of justice. She turned towards Magnus, her eyes brushing his dark, stormy glare. He wasn’t looking at her – his gaze was fixed on Erik, his expression a blend of anger and puzzlement.
Magnus opened his mouth— ‘You speak of desire as a need, my lord, not an emotion,’ Elise cut ahead. Her voice trembled slightly, but she forced herself to stand firm, to hold his gaze without faltering. ‘It’s not something I can demonstrate like this.’ Magnus cast her a fleetingly reproachful look before turning to his brother. ‘You will,’ Erik commanded, the finality stark against the tension. His gaze was unwavering, pinning her in place as though daring her to defy him.
‘Make the effort. Find a way.’ The command was a noose tightening around her.

From there, it grew into a whisper in my mind – barely formed, slightly unhinged, and followed by Norse mythology. Since then, it has grown teeth, scars, and developed a hunger that’s going to keep your toes curling and your thoughts misbehaving.
