Halloween Mage Imagedit Book 6 – Timothy Ellis

Many of the fantasy entertainments down the centuries have actually played on that theme. But have we actually done that now? I guess we’ll just have to wait and see what else happens.” She grinned at her cam. “Spooky!” She paused for the drama, still grinning. “This is Amy Allen, wondering what the hell is coming next.”
OceanofPDF.com Twenty Five I pinged Amy that was fine with me. Whatever her motivation was for doing it, I was glad she was at least on my side for once. It made me wonder if she’d had second thoughts about the Emergency Mage report, and how I might have reacted to it.
Or she’d recognised Elle’s laugh, or found out about it some other way, and seen my reaction. Whatever, I’d accept it in good faith. ‘Can you join us?’ pinged in from Maya. I wondered why. After all the magic everyone had been doing lately, I would have thought her trainees would be having an easy day today. Like the rest of us. Still, I had no reason to refuse. So I stood, moved to behind the empty chair I knew would be waiting for me, and then gaped.
“Morning, Dennis,” they all said. “What is this?” I choked out. They were all dressed like me. The colours were not what I was wearing today, but it was the same basic clothes, the same as the kids had been wearing. Just with actual trainee insignia. Although that had changed too. They were all wearing Emergency Mage badges, with the exception of Shaylin, who was wearing Seer.
“You must have missed the memo,” said Maya, obviously enjoying my reaction. “This is now the official Emergency Mage uniform for anyone doing the job. The clothes for the trainees were delivered this morning.” “Why do they need them?” “It’s in case they need to go on site, since we are getting near that stage in their training.

Steven was sitting next to me in the auditorium on Haven station. “Are you kidding?” I told him. “At this point, I’m ready for anything. Although this wasn’t what I had in mind. I was expecting something, but not this.” “I wasn’t even expecting anything. Christmas I can understand, but it’s four days to Halloween. What are we doing here now?” It was pretty obvious if you bothered to think about the timing. Especially when you gathered all the creation mages out in the League in one place, at this particular time.
So I gave Steven a ‘Duh!’ look, and said nothing. I was being honest though about being ready for anything. It had been thirty nine days since the landslide, and every single day I’d expected some sort of major emergency to deal with, and nothing had happened. After the first week I’d started counting them, the same way work sites counted days since the last accident.
Well, plenty had happened, but nothing that required major magic. No disasters, no missile attacks on planets not intercepted by mages or mosquito missiles already there for the purpose, and whoever had used those two Keerah shuttles as bombs hadn’t tried again when we expected them to. It was all routine stuff, and truth to tell, I was getting bored.
I also had a serious case of letdown.
