He looked to be in his mid to late 40s. This had to be Grimm. “I heard you been askin’ about me,” he said, his voice smooth as he closed the door behind him. I took a step back, swallowing the dry lump in my throat.

There was something about him that made me uneasy. His pleasant expression felt like a front, and the easy smile he wore didn’t fool me. My whole body was tense, my mind racing to assess the threat in front of me. “I… I just wanna know why I’m here,” I said as tears pricked at my eyes.

My hands trembled, and I clenched them into fists, trying to keep myself from falling apart. Halloween was only three days away, and I didn’t even want to think about what would happen that day. “I didn’t ask for any of this. I just wanna go home.” “You are home,” he replied, gesturing around as if the cell was some luxury suite. “And while you’re here, you’ll do as I say.

You’re no longer a citizen with rights—you’re my property now.” “I’m nobody’s fucking property,” I shot back, my voice trembling. “You can’t just take someone from their own home⁠—” “Take?” he cut in, a hint of amusement in his tone. “No, pumpkin, I paid for you. Cash. I never just take.” Confused, I stared at him, mind reeling. Who exactly did he pay to acquire me? “If you don’t let me out of here, I swear to God you’ll be sorry.
