I Fly Spaceships Book 4 – Rob Baddorf

This was nothing compared to how nice his suite had been. From the lineup of dirty boots, the room looked like it was used by some of the volcano workers. The beds were all in a row, almost like a school dorm or something. One bed held a sleeping figure. The alien was large and muscular. Lizard- like. The group tiptoed closer. The creature suddenly grunted, snorted, and rolled over, shifting position.
Daniel and the Marlenes froze. But the sleeper never woke. This room likely had some weapons in it, but Daniel couldn’t risk it. His towel rod would be nothing against a creature this size. So they pressed on. The inside of Kronos opened up. There were vast chambers as tall as four-story buildings. Large round portals allowed different sections to be quarantined off in case of emergencies. This area was more populated, mostly filled with humanoid transport bots.
They were carrying different supplies by hand while hover carts transported larger cargos. Daniel and the Marlenes clung mostly to the sides or the upper railings when they could. On and off they stopped, waiting for things to clear up enough for them to keep progressing. This might have been the slowest they had gone yet, but the Marlene leader assured Daniel they were close now. The prison didn’t feel close, which made Daniel nervous. Could he be misunderstanding where the Marlenes were taking him?
Daniel felt vulnerable. Almost anyone could walk up behind them. This area felt too open and exposed. They needed to get to smaller quarters. And most importantly, Daniel needed to get to the prison. At least Daniel knew that area of Kronos fairly well. But as with most parts of their journey, even when they took it slow and steady, they continued to make progress. The Marlenes led Daniel through narrow corridors and large open warehouses.
A corridor approached that was narrow and dim. The lights high above were the only illumination. But Daniel still paused. One Nyx warrior stood guard, patrolling the far end of the hallway. Great. How could Daniel make it past this guy?!

This was what he had wanted, wasn’t it? Daniel rolled over, examining the prison cell. It was tiny, barely enough size to hold the bed. As lumpy and dirty as the mattress felt, it was surprisingly comfortable. He knew he should start planning how to escape.
