Innocent Deception – Tami Dee

The unspoken reminder of his betrayal hanging heavy between them. Ethan continued, his words measured. “In fact, all the men w-who escorted Ceana and Sorsha shall remain here w-with ye.” He softened the harsh decree, for they both knew he was passing judgment for their betrayal, by adding, “Ye w-will need skilled warriors to defend yer walls.” Diarmad crossed his arms over his chest.
“I knew if ye learned of what we had done, cousin, the price would be high.” His gaze did not waver from Ethan’s. “Yet I cannot regret it.” Sionn’s eyes flickered open, a small frown marred his forehead as bits of their words had clearly penetrated his sleep. Ethan gently pressed Sionn’s head back to his shoulder and rubbed his back, then his gaze hardened as he once again met Diarmad’s eyes. “Ye may not feel thusly in a moment,” he said. Diarmad stiffened. “Why would that be?” Ethan unclenched his jaw.
“Because the lasses will also be returning t- to the moor as soon as I can arrange it. I have nay need of a w-wife, especially one w-who I cannot t-trust. I certainly have no need for a maid who is useless in the k-kitchen and who could return to being a shrew at any t-time. It w-will be a long t-time before I can t-trust any of ye again, cousin.
If ever.” A panicked voice sounded from behind them. “I don’t want them here!” Ethan and Diarmad swung around to face Lady Gormal. Ethan passed Sionn to Diarmad then took a menacing step towards her. “And w-why w-would ye not w-want yer daughter and h-her maid returning t-to their clan?” he asked softly, already regretting his decree to return Ceana to the viper standing before him.
He pushed away the regret. This was the clan she came from, this was the clan she would return to. Her eyes narrowed, the oddly attractive face became distorted, a touch of insanity making her eyes glitter. “Because Sorsha is not my daughter.” Ethan and Diarmad gaped at her. Taog ran towards them, skidding to a stop. His face was red from exertion and it took a moment for him to gather enough breath to speak. “Vikings,” he panted.

OceanofPDF.com Acknowledgments First and foremost I would like to offer my sincerest thanks and appreciation to Sharon Fite and the Royal Anderson family, for allowing my hero, Royal Ethan Anderson, to come to life with a name he can be proud of. A special thanks to my clan sisters of Celtic Hearts Romance Writers (A special interest chapter of Romance Writers of America) who unfailingly responded to my panicked emails asking about historical details for Scotland and the year 1050, the place and time where this novel is set.
I could not ask them everything I needed to know, so if any readers should see an inaccuracy, the error is mine and mine alone, and I hope ye forgive me for it. I can honestly say it is much easier to read a Scottish Historical than it is to write one, and I have the utmost respect for historical authors who pen such vivid, accurate, pictures of times gone by.
Fellow author and dear friend, Stephanie Burkhart, took time out of her busy writing life to read over Innocent Deception, catching those pesky typos and misspelled words my dyslexia often assures I do not ‘see,’ and for that I am very appreciative. I would like to offer a heartfelt to thanks my daughter. Each time writer’s block threw up a wall in front of me, her encouragement and enthusiasm for the story helped boost me over it.
I could not have completed this book without her. OceanofPDF.com Prologue Moor of Balvack, Scotland 1030 AD Rain beat against the tiny hut in icy sheets, the wind howled and whistled through gaps in the wooden structure. A single candle lit the room, casting long, flickering shadows over the sparse furnishings.
