Another time, I found Bronson Caves in Griffith Park, where it all went to hell in the 1956 Invasion of the Body Snatchers. Then came a life-changing episode, literally: the ‘Queen of Peru,’ an episode of The Rockford Files written by a young David Chase, who 25 years later created The Sopranos, was so subversive, so funny, it made me want to be a writer.
Researching this book, I went to Paradise Cove in Malibu, where they shot the exteriors for the show. It looks the same. I got chills, it was magic.
