Bound In Blood And Frost – Texa Volt

Every morning, my body responds before my mind catches up—pulse quickening, skin flushing, a warmth pooling low in my belly that has nothing to do with fear. I should find that unsettling. Instead, I find myself arching slightly under the sheets, stretching in ways that make the silk slip against my thighs, knowing he’s tracking every movement with those predator eyes. Corvin is in the chair by the window.
Of course he is. But something’s different today. He’s too still—even for a vampire. His hands grip the armrests like he’s holding himself in place by force of will alone, and as I watch, a crack splinters through the wood beneath his fingers. His eyes aren’t their usual controlled crimson. They’re darker. Deeper. Burning with something he’s barely containing. “Good morning.” His voice is a low rasp. Wrecked. Like he’s been screaming silently for hours. “How long have you been watching?” “All night.” The admission should be creepy. Instead, heat flares through me—the knowledge that he’s been sitting there for hours, watching me sleep, wanting things he won’t let himself take.
“That’s—” “Necessary.” He cuts me off, but his eyes drop to where the sheet has slipped, revealing the curve of my shoulder, the swell of my breast beneath thin fabric. They linger there—Loss long, too hungry—before he drags them back to my face with visible effort. “You were restless. Your heart rate spiked. You said my name.” I don’t remember the dream, but my body does. The ache between my thighs. The sensitivity of my skin. The way my nipples tighten under his gaze even through the silk.
“I say a lot of things in my sleep.” “You do.” His voice drops to something barely above a growl. “Most of them would make a saint weep. And I am no saint, Ivy.” The air in the room thickens. I’m suddenly aware of everything—the cool temperature he keeps, the way goosebumps rise along my arms, the fact that I’m wearing nothing but my lace underwear.
Corvin’s knuckles go white against the chair. Another crack splits the armrest. “You should get dressed.” “Should I?” “Ivy.” My name is a warning. A plea. A prayer to something he stopped believing in centuries ago. “I’m hungry. And you’re making it very difficult to remember why I’m supposed to be civilized.”
The words land like a match on gasoline. Hungry. He says it like it means something different than food. Something darker.

Dragons don’t sleep much, but I value the few hours of peace I get. So when my phone rings with Brukk’s ringtone—set to chainsaw sounds as a joke that’s not funny anymore—I know something’s wrong. “What?” I answer, already sitting up in my penthouse office. “We need to talk. In person. Now.” The goblin sounds exhausted, defeated in a way I’ve never heard from him.
“You’re in Scotland. I’m in Portland.” “I know where we both are, dragon.” “Then how—” “Just… can you get here?” I’m already pulling on clothes, rage building at whatever put that tone in Brukk’s voice. “Give me your exact location.” He rattles off coordinates, then: “Hurry.” I could fly, but Scotland’s a long way even for a dragon. Which means… I call Tian. “What do you want?” He answers, sounding perfectly awake because of course he is.
“I need a portal to Scotland. Now.” “Good morning to you too, sunshine.” “Tian—” “Where in Scotland? It’s a whole country, not a street corner.” I give him Brukk’s coordinates. There’s a pause. “That’s the goblin clan township.” “Yes.” “Where Ivy just spent a week.” “Yes.” “Where you’re not supposed to be because it’s not your turn—” “You already marked her, asshole. Don’t try me.” The words come out with enough dragon fire that my phone screen cracks. Silence. Then: “Something’s wrong.”
“Obviously.” “I mean with Ivy. I can feel it through the bond. She’s upset. Scared.” Another pause. “I’ll open the portal. Try not to burn Scotland down.” The portal tears open in my bedroom, silver light spilling through. I step through and immediately smell it—demon blood, days old but pervasive. The goblin township is on high alert, guards everywhere, weapons drawn. Brukk emerges from a partially destroyed building that used to be his home.
