I chuckled. “When I heard that, I knew we wouldn’t end up dead. That said, I’m going to do my best to get that damn drive back.” “If anyone can do it, it’s you.” I grinned at Fab. 1kitap1.com/en Chapter Nineteen I walked out of the house two mornings later to find Fab gunning the engine of my loaner SUV.

“Surprised you showed up,” I said, sliding into the passenger seat. “And miss lunch with Monkey Dude? So you know, I expect details before we get to Jake’s.” Fab roared out of the compound. “Blanche called to invite me to lunch at her ranch with Monkey Dude, who would like to meet me.

I reminded her that my only involvement was calling her ranch. I then suggested that she bring all her lunch guests to Jake’s, promised good food, and said they could check out how we incorporated the game room. She didn’t hesitate to accept.” “Since all’s been quiet, I’m thinking some kind of agreement must’ve been reached, or the cops would have been back.”

“Your turn.” Tempted to poke her, I restrained myself. “What’s the latest on the Flower chick? If you do find her, are you going to kick her butt before you hand her over to Mancini or one of the other men looking for her?” “Haven’t heard from Tow, but Didier told me to be patient. I hate that word,” Fab said. I laughed. “I decided to contact Austin to get a description of the things she stole from him, and I’m hoping to get a lead on them, such as which pawn shop she used, which I hope will give me a lead on her.

If I get that lucky, I’ll shake the USB drive out of her and drive her to the airport.” “You think it will be that easy?”

There were four houses, and we owned two, using one for guests and living in the other. Our friends, Fabiana and Didier, owned the other two: one they lived in and the other they rented to Casio, a retired detective who lived there with his four kids. Once inside the gate, the number one rule was to wait for it to close so no one could sneak inside.

I kept eyeing the coffees in the holder, ready to gulp one down; the other one was for Fab. If I were to drink in front of her, having not gotten one for her, there would be no end to the snark. CRUNCH! My Range Rover slammed forward with such force that I barely managed to hang onto the steering wheel. I glanced in my rearview mirror as two mambo-sized pickups maneuvered around my SUV. One made a hard turn in front of me and, from the sounds of it, took out the headlights as he hemmed me in, blocking me from going anywhere.

The other truck shot down the road, and once he passed where Casio lived and then my house, it was clear he was headed to Fab’s. The driver of the truck in front of me jumped out and aimed his gun at my windshield. Despite knowing the glass was bulletproof, I still flopped sideways, keeping my head down as he shot at it. The glass starred in more than a half-dozen places.
