Fated To The Emberjack – Selina Bevan

What did I want? To run? To fight? To burn this entire palace to the ground? No. I wanted control. Over my magic, my body, my fate. I wanted to stop feeling like a pawn in everyone else’s game. “I want…” My voice dropped to a whisper. “I want to stop being afraid.” “Are you safe with me?” he asked, the question loaded with meaning beyond the simple words.
I swallowed hard, the anger draining away, leaving something raw and needy in its wake. “Yes.” “Then trust me,” he growled. My breath caught. “Let me take care of you,” he said, the command softening to something almost tender. His free hand dropped to my throat, fingers splaying across my collarbone. The touch sent electricity skittering across my skin, the bond between us humming with recognition.
“I won’t let them hurt you.” His thumb traced my jaw, rough and tender at once. “But you need to trust me.” “I do.” The words surprised me with their truth. The last of my resistance shattered. Something about his intensity, his certainty, broke through my panic.
My shoulders sagged, tension bleeding away as I surrendered to the inevitable. His hand slid down, fingers skimming the remains of the corset and the thin shift beneath. I stood paralysed as he stripped me, tearing through the court dress until I wore nothing but my undergarments. My nipples tightened in the cool air, pressing visibly against the thin fabric. Callan’s attention dropped, ember-eyes flaring brighter. His hand tugged away the last barrier between us, leaving me naked while he remained fully clothed.
The imbalance should have infuriated me. Instead, it sent a shivery thrill racing up my spine. “Please,” I whispered, the word escaping before I could stop it. His hand continued its journey downward, skimming over the swell of my breast through the shift, down my ribs, across my stomach. Each touch left a trail of heat in its wake.
My body arched instinctively, seeking more contact. “You’re mine,” he whispered, his voice hoarse. “My witch. My queen.” His fingers found the hem of my shift and skated beneath, skimming up my inner thigh. “The court will never accept weakness, but here, with me, you don’t need to be strong.” I gasped as his fingers brushed against the damp heat between my legs. He growled, the sound vibrating through me as he stroked along my sensitive flesh.
My hips bucked, eager and shameless.

He had the nerve to say he was saving my life. The real reason? He knew I was his soulmate the second I walked into his prison. As much as I want to call him insane, my own magic is siding with the pumpkin man.
It’s been a destructive wrecking ball since I met him, a tempest that only his hands on my body can tame. He needs to survive seven rigged trials to take back his throne, and our fated connection has just painted a target on both our backs. He’s the monster, and I’m the witch his people want to burn. Our fated bond might be the spark that reignites an old purge, but it’s also the only thing strong enough to drag a dying realm back from the brink.
And if his enemies come for us, they’ll learn exactly what a monster prince and his witch will do to hold onto each other. Fated to the Emberjack is a steamy standalone monster romance where a witch and a tortured pumpkin prince must fight a corrupt court and survive deadly trials to claim their destiny.
If you love romantasy with “touch her and die” heroes, fated mates, forced proximity, and a unique magic system where intimacy is survival, you’ll devour this tale of a witch and the pumpkin prince who will burn the world for her.
